We've made a few sun shades for the Red LCD and also a Barney that you can insert the gel cold packs into. Wanted to know if anyone else would be interested. Materials are 2000 denier nylon and kevlar thread so its top quality but I need to know if there is demand before having them made up in a quantity greater than 2.

I only have two handmade samples of each. We have a contact who is a major backpack manufacturer who is going to have line samples made up this week. I will then have price estimates and pictures worth posting. Sunshade probably around $20 and the barney will be around $100 (guesstimates).

Interested in both, especially if it's possible to alter the shape/size of barney depending on camera configuration.
the barney will be around $100 (guesstimates).

What size gels packs could we use ?
How many ? Two ? One for each side or... ?
Would you use the ones that you first put in a fridge or the ones
that makes cold by themselves when opened or both ?

I don't know if I would suggest Kevlar thread. It's been tested in the skydiving industry for lines and canopy thread. It is extremely strong considering its light weight, but its not as durable as it sounds. Sunlight and abrasive substances break it down rapidly. For instance, a kevlar line with a single chalk mark will break on the mark when pull tested. Sunlight breaks it down VERY rapidly.
You might want to consider Type E, FF, or even 3 or 5 cord nylon thread.
What type of nylon is 2000 denier? I've used 500, 1000, 1050 ballistics, and 1650 luggage, but haven't heard of 2000?
As far as heating/cooling the camera, I think a rod mounted accessory that could be plugged into a 12v out might be even better. But it would probably cost more.

We definitely need each of these. I look forward to seeing the design develop.
Has anyone adapted an existing sunshade to the RED LCD?

I'll pass along the thread information. The 2000 denier is the multilayer with the coating on it. Again that is what the hand made ones are made of, the line samples are still being done up. Not totally sure what the final product will be. Current the two that were made take 3 gel packs (about 5"x8") that you could find in a first aid store.

Does anyone know about how the camera is handling heat? We're shooting in Texas and temps average around 96 degrees (35 Celsius) in August.

Any news on this? There is quite a bit of discussion about barneys, both for cooling and noise blimping here:
