Ha! My dad worked for Kodak for over 30 years as general manager in several countries, that exactly what he sounded like everytime I asked him about the future. I sent him the clip.

Cool video, but I don't think I want Kodak adjusting and composing my images.

LOL, It's obviously all mass consumer oriented, I'm sure you'll still be able to compose the way you wish if you're one of the consumers who even know how the term composition applies to taking a photo.

One would hope, but I'm not going to count on it. Nothing that he mentioned sounded like it would help us professionals.

If this is true, it's a real shame since Kodak used to be the professional image system (film), both for stills and motion picture. They were at the forefront of digital at one time. But now they are seem to be only concentrating on consumers. I know they are still making motion picture film that's the best you can get today, but I believe that film is not the way of the future.

Their consumer division business has suffered greatly for a while but their motion picture division has done better in the last couple years than it ever has.

They have done alot of R&D concerning digital for the motion picture industry, not all ends up as one of their own products and I know that they license alot of technology, search their patents and you'll see it's not all about film.

For all we know the sensor in RED could be manufactured by Kodak. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was since they make custom sensors for ultra high end applications.

In fact check this out: http://www.google.com/patents?q=kodak+cmos RED's sensor probably incorporates technological developments brought on by Kodak anyways.

I've heard that they made some of the sensors for spy satellites. They also made the first full frame 35mm still camera as far as I know.

I caught this video earlier this afternoon and loved it.
"You were a Kodak moment once, and BY GOD, you will be one again!"

...They also made the first full frame 35mm still camera as far as I know.
I don't know if Kodak actually made/developed it first, but I know Canon was the first to release it with the 1Ds, while Kodak's 14n came shortly after.
I think.
Anyway, the video is definitely aimed at the consumer market, one of the features in particular with face recognition is already becoming widely available from Fujifilm.
And speaking of Fujifilm, their digital motion picture R&D shows some pretty promising stuff. Something called OCMOS they're working on is very interesting.

According to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/timeline.asp?start=2002 the Kodak was anounced 1 day before the Canon. I honestly though that both these cameras came out well before 2002, unless this site is totally wrong.

DPreview is generally spot on.
But announcements could come any number of months before or after full development, and then any number of months could pass before they're releasing it. So, even if Canon announced later than Kodak, I think Canon still released their's before Kodak did, but I still have no clue who actually had one fully developed first.
More than likely it is Kodak.

That's Steve Tom - also seen on the Doctor Pepper ads - looks a lot more comfortable in this video than presenting P2 at NAB a few years back!

Eastman Kodak 's CCDs helped BTS then later sold to Philips ( now is Thomson GV ) to build most famous 2K Telecine named Spirit back in 1995. I sold few units to my customers in ASIA at that time as well.

There is no questions that Kodak has their knowhow and technologies in sensors developemnt from the evolution from CCDs to CMOS anyway.

I love the line about selling the digital camera to Apple -

Somebody really needs to make a spoof of this video and stick it on YouTube.

Or better yet, a really fun spoof of a new RED "PRODUCT" that will be released at NAB -

Bill Miller - an amazing fund manager says buy Kodak - go figure!

I'll stick with my AAPL, NVDA & SYNA -

Great Video but I don't hold out much hope for Kodak. Everything they did with high end still digital was kind of a flop.

Come on, we all know where the Redone sensor came from.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0606/06061901dalsa100mp.asp

We also know where they got all that money to pay for that big rental facility out in the valley. You know, the one stocked with all those fabulous Zeiss lenses.
That's right... the evil corporation types at Dalsa have had Red Leader under some form of mind control and are slowly bleeding him dry to finance their own evil empire.
We must save Fearless Leader.... unite unite unite bring down the evil empire! And while your in the valley, take care of that other thorn in the side out in Woodland Hills.

A GPS device built in? Kodak must be reading the ideas posted in here by some of the users. (Too bad one of the redteam members posted that insurance was better than a GPS, and that the Red one wouldn't have GPS.) I agree, the device would be small and cheap, but the monthy service fee would be expensive and thieves would find a way to deactivate it.

But Koday isn't going to use GPs as an anti theft device. It will just use GPS to record where you took the photo. It would be something like a date stamp, except it would be a place stamp.
Then I can take pics and post them on Panoramio (or Google Earth, Wikimapia, etc.), and remember exactly where I was when I took the pic.
