Since i got the camera 3-1-08, i have noticed that half of the time when i turn on the camera the LCD dosen`t turn on. I have to push the button on the LCD several times, today it took 2 minutes, to get a picture.
Is there anybody who has got the same experience?
Best regards

If the camera is set to LCD as output when it powers up, the LCD should power up to. Can you isolate if it is a cable issue or actual LCD issue?

Hi Brent
The cable is mounted as it should. The camera is set to give me pictures at the LCD only. When I hit the power button on the LCD, I can see a slight change in blacklevel at the monitor and nothing happens. I can do that 5 or 6 times before I get my picture on the LCD.

Very similar issues here today - LCD refused to power up at one point, though pressing brightness up/down caused the screen to flicker once. After a little experimentation - pressing a few more buttons, it eventually decided to power up.
anyone else in the same boat?

Last night when I unpacked and set up everything I could not power the LCD. I pressed a few buttons in combination with the power button and then it worked. Next time I booted up, the LCD came up with the camera.
Red Team, what exactly is the procedure for powering the LCD? Power button? Or a combo?
I'll try again later. Babysitting now.
Cheers,
Harry

Not that this is necessarily your issue, but I found for the first week I used the lcd that I thought I had a problem, but it was actually operator error.
The camera defaults to the last used monitor selection, so half the time I had to go into the menu and reset it to LCD.
Also, until I fully understood the purpose of all the buttons, when I thought I was powering the LCD I was actually turning it off or pushing the wrong button and toggling to another source.
The LCD comes on by default, when you turn on the camera. Are you sure you aren't simply turning it off w/ all your button pushes?

I'll check it later Greg but I think that's exactly what I was doing. Hope that's the case for Steen as well. It would be a bummer if it was DOA. I'm sure the Red SWAT team will get right on it if that's the case though...

Hi guyes!
I didnīt push any buttons, because the only way for me right now is using the LCD monitor. I haven`t got a monitor with SDI to look at. It is like the camera donīt remember the last setting. Next time the LCD wonīt come up I will check the seetings at the cameraīs own display.

Hi again
I tryed to turn on the camera 5 times now, and the LCD came up nice every time. Then I took the camera outside for 5 minutes with 5 Celsius outside.
Then I turned on the camera again and the LCD was off. I checked the display at the camera, and the monitor setting was " LCD". I turned the camera off.
Waited another 30 sec. turned it on again and the LCD didn`t come up. I pushed the power button at the LCD, and i came up after approx. 2 sek.
Iīm a little confused here??

To follow up, each time I boot the camera the LCD comes on automatically. I assume that I had "button mashed" (as my friend calls it) in a panic the first time, and actually shut it down by mistake.
So no problem here... hope everyone else sorts it out...

Harry

The ops guide (page 22) describes the buttons on the RED LCD.
The key on the right is used to switch between 1280 x 848 pixel Video plus Menus and 1280 x 720 pixel Video plus Frame Guide modes.
If a RED-LCD is physically connected, but there is no video displayed, press and hold this button to acquire the monitor feed to the RED-LCD.
Maybe this helps?

Backlight gone?
No I have seen the same thing multiple times. It just isn't switching on. Once it does it works fine.

Hey guys,
In the menu on the back:
Go to the System->Monitor->Active
Switch it over to EVF.
Switch it back to LCD
Tears of Joy.
Doesn't work:
Toggle power button on LCD exactly once
Funny thing its often the circular button that isn't labeled with the power symbol.
Boot down the Red
Boot it back up.
Tears of Joy.
And yes, I've bitched about this problem. Since October. I think they just have other things on their plate. Many.

Yes, I think they are very busy.
Hope they will cope with the problem.
The other day the camera went down many times because of a bad cradle connection, and i had to push that "on" button and wait for the LCD to work
many times.

ive seen this issue many a time. Try Ian's method, It usually worked for me when i had this problem. Its not a permanent fix, however it will get your LCD up and running. I wish I had a LCD and camera right now to mess around with so I could figure out the break!

Hey guys,
I've read through the thread and the online manual and tried everything. My LCD hasn't turned on since it's been out of the box. Batteries charged full, everthing is connected properly, and the camera boots up fine. Do you guys have any other suggestions? Also confused to which button on the lcd is actually the power button. The one with the power symbol or the other one? Kind of a bummer...
Thanks

Itīs the left button with the power symbol.
Hold it down for approx. 2 sek, then wait and see.
If nothing happens do that again. Sometimes I have to
do this for 3 or 4 minutes before I get the LCD to turn on.
I have also tried to go into the menu at turn the LCD on
and off several times, but nothing happens that way.
Maybe reboot the camera. The LCD problem was on build 12
and it is on build 13, I donīt know about build 14.
RED hasen`t come up with a fix yet, as far as I know.

There was a bug up through Build 13 / maybe 14 where the order of the buttons across the top were reversed..
What should be -
Power.....Dim......Bright......Function
