I guess it doesn’t matter a damn what offline clip wrangler (NLE) you use, as long as you adhere to the basic standard EDL/XML commands, (cos that’s what’ll be going back into REDCINE after your offline is done).
Still, I’d be interested in how REDCINE tracks those high rez REDCODE macro blocks as you book them out of REDCODE to an offline codec and then book them back in via RPL.
In the middle of course you’ve done your basic offline stuff, so I’d be particularly interested in how REDCINE (or QT) will handle those collapsed nested tracks. After which you do some REDCINE online prep and then the real fun starts with whatever online system you can afford.
It’ll help high-end NLE sales by producing another high-end data (& revenue) stream, so RED should get their unbridled support. As far as the cheap NLE’s are concerned, RED only supports EDL/XML's slice & dice in an offline situation, so anymore than that on your NLE and you’re on own/way to unsupported (by RED) online land.
Well I hope that’s how it works!
But I'm sure the RED team will have surpassed my little (dampish) dream here as their enthusium, genius and good 'ol hardwork continue to break the technological boundaries of digital cinema and opens the fists of Sony's money men.
But Jim, you did buy a sony projector the other month, hope you're taking it back after NAB!
