Jim,
Camera Rocks.. Thank you so much.
I have a small request: The screws that you turn to hold the REDDrive in place are a little short. They are hard to screw in tight enough to lock the drive into place.
Can you get them a little longer, or perhaps change them to something a little easier to turn?
If you don't get them pretty tight, the drive can slip out.. That could be bad.
Just a suggestion.
I'm having a blast.

Jay... noted. There are still lots of little things we can/will do to improve the system. This is one of them.

This is why I love RED the company!
How many years did it take for the D20 to hit the street? :shifty:

i just read that harddrives are being delivered real-time... so basically no need to get a CF card?

CF cards are lighter and better for high shock environments so still lots of reasons to get CF cards.

I'm thinking of go for just the CFs and not the drives. Pro's: Light (I shoot mostly handheld) Con's: For the moment 4 min 30 sec film in 4K on the 8 GB card. But soon we will have 16 and then 32 and then 64 which are fast enough!

i wouldnt really mind the additional weight. have there been any reports of drives just not functioning out of a sudden or lacking proper performance during heavy movement. I know the drives could withstand falling and stuff. just wondering how well they perform. CF's have been reported to corrupt files?

We have 5 CFs and 2 drives. Mostly because we plan on shooting everything RED from ENG, docs, features, etc. Get a drive and at least 3 CF cards.

Get the RedDrive too - it's so fantastic to not have to reload - a real time saver, great for the actors too, especially if they're improvising.
