Hi

So I would like to build a remote start/stop button for the red. I can soldier and I know where to get the parts. But I don't just want a simple start/stop button. I want to build one that has a LED that lights up when the camera is rolling.

So I think I need to add some electronic components to drive the LED. I think a resistor and a transistor, right? While we're at it I could also add an resistor/condensator combination that prevents double-switching. Although this could be done in the Camera firmware, too.

Daniel used the Lens plug for his switch. I would use the ACC plug.

Are there any electronic-savy people out there who could post a wriring diagram?

Here is a thread with a diagram.

I would actually like some help with it - i.e. exactly which pins of the transistor and the diode and the LEDs go to what so maybe we can combine to get some help.

We are very interest to do it :) If some body can send as what pins i need to use we can begin :) Let's do it together .

Hello Simon,

How is your downloading station going?
Have a nice shoot with Hans Meier!

See you soon.

It's been decades since I tinkered with electronics so I had to do some research, myself, to remember which end is which. Google is your friend. So, here you go:

diode characteristics and orientation (Googled "diode orientation"):
http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/diode.htm

transistor operation and orientation (Googled "transistor orientation"):
http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/tran.htm

capacitors:
http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/capac.htm

And LED's:
http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/led.htm

I just received my parts from Allied for the stop/start controller discussed in the other thread.

Thanks for the link. I didn't see that.

Now if someone wants to make print layout for a circuit board this would be it.
Or even better: a series of circuit boards and sell them to us. I think we could all get a case and the components ourselves. :)

I just ordered a couple of Lemo plugs. Including an EGG.2B.316.CLL. Did you get that, Sean? I'm going to put that in my download station if you help me or not. :pirate:

Hello Simon,

How is your downloading station going?

Patrick

I ordered all the parts. I hope to be able to use it by the end of February.
It's going to rock!

How is your Scratch system coming along?

:weight_lift: :ranting2:

A mix of all these... If you see what I mean... Trying to figure out other options still based on a Scratch system.

(PS: for those not aware about the project (99.9% of poeple in this forum) : it's a financing problem not related to any Assimilate products).

PM or email PanaTech. He's making one for me.
Cheers,

I second that I am not smart enough to make one, but smart enought to buy one.

Just got my start/stop cable from pana-tech with a 10m extension. It's great, built solid, highly recommended.

Not at all, and well worth it. Probably cheaper than if RED offered one, but I'd rather Pana-Tech give out his own prices.

Pana-tech-
Sorry for the false alarm on our cable request a couple weeks ago and glad to hear that you are 'in production' on the cable. Please stay in touch, especially if you choose to standardize your pricing/package.

Hi folks...quick question, I have this wooden hand grip I kept from an old aaton package cause its simply a well crafted hand made wood handle. At the moment it has an record/run switch built in with a lemo out...anyone able to custom rig this guy to work with RED. Making it remote with record run and led light indicator as discussed here would just be too fine. Thanks!

That should be pretty easy for a tech to red rig for ya Haskell. That thing will look sweet on a red and should rossette on the ET base plate. I love the old wood handles. The look of older battle scared cine cameras and accessories always seem to look best to me. The red body is built tough and as the paint scratches and flakes over time should make it look really good and at home on a film set.

reach out to me next week Haskell - easy breezy - we made and tested every possible cable for the Red camera you could think of at Panavision NY today - including a hand grip very similar to that. I owe you a favor anyway -

Finner, I couldn't agree more and look forward to the day my RED bears wounds of battle. Mark, thanks for the leads...you owe me nothing man, I am sure our paths will cross soon enough though! :)

I am very interested in the panavision grip, and if I cant convert my aaton wood grip then I will have to sell it. I would hate to do that though as it was hand carved by an old man in the french alps, it has been good to me.

JP's not all that old yet is he?? The Aaton switch is a On/Off Rocker. You could use that if you cycled the switch twice. Switch on, then off to start, on/off again to stop, or replace the switch with a momentary rocker.

Mark, Next time are in PVNY please tell Tim C. I said Hello.

JP? Is this the man responsible for such fine craftsmanship? I just said he was old cause it sounded more dramatic, sorry...he is not old, but talented yes.

So your saying I can use the aaton wood grip it as is with the lemo out? For anyone who wants to know the aaton switch is built so it presses down left or right...pressing left requires holding down to record, only stopping when you let go. Pressing right locks down record only stoping when you press left back to position one.

Thanks for the feedback Pana-tech, I would like to replace the switch if I can...how does the momentary rocker work, sounds like what I just explained.

JP referrs to Jean-Pierre Beauviala... Mr. Aaton. He's probably in his late 60's now I'm guessing. Been quite a while since i've seen him. YES Very talented.

Pana-Tech,
they make the Aaton grips now with either or. I have one with a momentary switch that the boys at Abel rigged for me to work with the 3-pin RS Lemo on my Pro-35 for when I go handheld with that rig. Works great.
I thought about trying to make a lighter weight setup with an Aaton grip (I bought the Red 15mm adapter piece) but I see that there is really more to attaching 15mm ENG rods to the bottom of the camera than I thought...
BTW, the remote on/off that you made for me is SUPER cool and smaller than I had imaginged (which I like)
Cheers,
Harry
