View Full Version : Do the new macpros with ATI2600 work for Red ?

I need to order a macpro in the next couple of days to be used on a major even next week; so the 8800GT card is not an option.

Can anybody comment on using a new macpro with the ATI2600?

Does it actually work in both FCP and RedCine?

Has anybody been seriously cutting a simple project with it just to make sure it's stable enough?

Thanks for the feedback,

It works fine. I'm getting respectable render times in RedCine, and FCP works really well. The brute force of those 8 procs outweigh the lack of power in the video card.

the lack of power in the video card.
is that mean that is not doing fine as compare with ATI RADEON X1900 XT

The 2600 isn't as fast as the 1900XT, but I can only compare the speed of my 4 core MacPro with a 1900XT vs. a new 8 core MacPro with a 2600. The new MacPro is faster than the old machine at rendering out from RedCine, but the old machine has an easier time playing proxies without dropping frames.

The new machine is very fast right now, but I know it will be faster with a faster video card.

As Lucas put it... SLI is bad for image processing... good for gaming

Doesn't answer the question about dual 2600..what is SLI ?

We know that a single 1900 is faster than a single 2600. what about dual 2600 ?

I assume when you say dual 2600 you have it in a SLI setup (two cards working together)... or do you have it to hook up say 4 monitors?
