We had a really good day yesterday, which means that someone else had a really bad day... :-)

I will post prices on Monday. Those who are realistic should not be disappointed. I am a bit concerned that the ship date might slip just a bit, but we are working hard to try to reel it back in. If it does slip, it won't be much.

We will be ready for NAB. The images are incredible. The best part of what we are doing is the ease of the workflow. It really is mind-blowing. But don't underestimate the difficulty of what we are doing.

Jim,

Saw the original Red footage from the IBC presentation last week at quvis, and I was shocked at how clean and cinematic the footage was, and can't wait much longer until NAB.

What do you have in mind for the current maximum # of reservations someone can place for the Red Ones?

Just imagine that 14 months ago we decided to do a 4K camera from ground zero. We needed to finish a sensor design, get it fabbed, do the industrial design, develop REDCODE, REDCINE, do the boards, develop an accessory program, and get this all together to produce an image, workflow and program that revolutionizes the industry with a core group of a handful of people. Impossible is the most beautiful word in the English language.

Mind blowing ease of workflow...

Geez this is refreshing - I've been in some heated debates here in Hollywood about the 2-5 year anticipated industry lag time of 4K support for finishing both with software and hardware, "So what's the point of shooting 4K?"

Jim,

Thanks for making sure the workflow is as smooth as possible. I didn't reserve during the first window because I had bought an HVX200 and editing the MXF files were a real problem at the time. I didn't want to run into similar problems with another new system. By the time the second window opened up, REDCINE sounded like it was working pretty well. So, I took the plunge and sent in my deposit. So very glad I did.

"I Don't Like Mondays" were singing Bob Geldof with The Boomtown Rats in 1979. One of my favorite songs. "I will post prices on Monday." (Jim started with this tread (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=857)). But maybe only that Monday I will like. Could be a great announcement and there could be a real affordable prices for the RED ONE™ accessories and of course for the camera but with a price that is a bit higher from the reservation. And also could see extra announcement about absolutely fantastic 4K>2K>HD workfow with the RED ONE™. About shipping schedule I do not care so much. No rush.

Impossible is the most beautiful word in the English language.

Jim,

With the birth of RED ONE you'll have done much more than send a shock wave through Japan they will need years to recover from and alter the landscape of this industry for good.

You'll have inspired so many that 'impossible' shouldn't be a stop sign but a guide to aim higher than anyone would ever dare to.

We read about this type of mindset often in history books and biographies but most are rarely lucky enough to be close to it and see it develop right before their eyes.

You've made yourself available through this forum and others since day one and shared your experience (ups and downs) with thousands around the world. It is an incredibly inspiring story that will stay with us for a long time and hopefully change the way some of us think about the word 'impossible' for good.

That my friend is timeless.

So thank you for that invaluable lesson and CONGRATULATIONS to you and the RED Team.

Your friend,

Frederic

Wow, Chuck...

Didn't realize you were such a fan of Bullwinkle J. Moose. Sorry, to disappoint, but I never got into the characters... Now that it's come up in this thread that the show was revolutionary for its time, I suppose it was in a few ways, but overall not really. I do have a fondness for certain older cartoons, especially the early experimental years at Disney and others doing such things in the 30's thru 50's. Some of my all time favorite animation works are WWII era, but that's another discussion entirely.

And when does "working in animation" have such requisites as a fondness of Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle as they thwart two evil nitwits while collecting boxtops? Perhaps I should give it another look, because after all, Bullwinkle forecasting the weather based on his bunyon was a stroke of comic genius.... not. Anyway, no point in arguing over opinions. If you like Rocky and Bullwinkle, then hey good for you.

FWIW, I do some animation, but that doesn't mean I make cartoons. I do mostly architectural, tecnical and medical visualizations. To date my crowning achievement in animation has been an in-depth exploration of a new heart valve implant system. Although, the visuals I did for a US Army bridge construction training seminar are a close second. Yes, I'd like to do more animation work, but it's more of a hobby for now. The bit in my sig about Animation & FX ties in with some stuff I'm working on now in conjunction with my RED purchase. A lot of long-term contracts I've had are running out and I'd like to shift gears and go in a direction I'm more personally interested in... Will it pay the bills? Probably not, but it's worth giving it a try.

Oh yeah, I don't drink Coors --- I know what's in the water already. ;)

Dear REDHEADS,

Very strong anticipation for RED in small (educated) segments of the Toronto Film and Television industry. You guys will do very well here. The announcement of easy work flow is a great relief to me. One of the chief hurdles here is slowly convincing Producers they want to make the transition to tapeless acquisition. There has been, and will continue to be, much reluctance with regards to this. I hope we can all demonstrate the reliability of this system later this spring/summer. I can't wait till NAB.

You guys are awesome.

Investing in a company that embraces challenges, and in fact thrives on them, was one of the reasons that I felt comfortable going along for this ride. Usually that's just 'corporate speak', but so far you've proven otherwise.

glad to hear you can afford the SDX900, jay. but i'm using money made from an XL2 and an FX-1 to buy mine. sony could have had my $30K, but they refused to manufacture a complete package in my price range. sony is slagging me with trickleware and creating needs for constant upgrades, not the other way around. i've spent $13,000 on cameras that depreciate at a disturbing rate.

thanks, RED, for the remarkable revolutionary camera. but even more than that, thank you for a remarkable revolutionary business model.

Alot disbelievers on DVInfo turned around after you started posting on there, then you got your own sub-forum, to the DVXUser crowd, to this now. From just that the word was spread and things went from there. I was one of those disbelievers on DVInfo before you started posting and since have been following you every step of the way. As a new " junior member " I'd like to say hello to all. And congratulations to the Red team. I like many others have followed the good news and good people since the inception of DVXuser. It is wonderful to see others with vision, guts and inspiration! Beware the fairweather friends and embrace what you know is right. There are many of us who are planning on acquiring a RED collection of goodies when our times are right with productions. If there is one thing I have learned in 51 years of life, is that "every" problem has it's solutions, (and edit decisions.) It is clear that many wonderful opportunities will soon be possible thanks to all of you at RED along with your true friends and supporters. ________ CL

I haven't posted much since switching to this new forum from DVXUser, having moved to Japan recently, but I just want to chime in quickly and say a personal thankyou to Jim, and all the Red team, for giving me the impetus to put down a deposit on #378 all those months ago, and then later adding #834 as it became apparent that this camera really was going to revolutionise the industry from the bottom up.

Having a Red reservation really solidified my plans and gave me the confidence to move to Japan to make movies, secure in the knowledge that my cameras will be highly sought after for rental purposes once they see the spectacular footage this camera will generate for them. This in turn will help me fund my own movies and find the crews I need to make them with.

From one man's dream of building the world's best motion picture camera, I will in turn launch my own dreams.

Impossible is the most beautiful word in the English language.

Jim

My sentiments exactly, Jim. And thanks to you and all of the Red team for proving the "impossible" possible.

Still early morning in California or just a couple of hours after midnight. Wait about 6-8 hours. Drink one more coffee. Prices will come for sure after Jim's morning coffee/tee time.

For a help watch the current local time in Los Angeles

LOL. The forecast on the site says it's "Clear. Refreshingly cool." in REDland turning comfortably warm and sunny. Rather apt description! :matrix:

To Gibby....

OK.

I'm having a hard time here.
Really love the development!

Have ordered the cam and lense.

Have read short to every post on every forum I know about the Red.
Have posted a bit less than others...
Hope to have my cam by August.

My entire income comes from making video/film...

Am I still one of those who can air my views, or did I just make 1000 too few posts?

Looking forward to Monday, though.

Congrats and I reallly like what's going on.

BUT: If every loyality/professional issue is to juded by # of posts... and # of items ordered, I'm having a hard time.

Gunleik

Hi Gunleik,

I assume your comments to me are a reaction to my discussions with TJ on the “The Horror of Dead Pixels” thread. I think posting these comment of yours to me would have been more appropriate on that thread. You might want to check the latest posts on that thread. Link: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=641&page=5

I think you misunderstood my comments there. They were directed specifically to TJ a reaction to my understanding of statements he made. Those issues have been resolved. If you took my comments to mean that I felt someone’s right to post on concerns/issues was commensurate with their length of forum membership or the number of posts they’ve made, or when they reserved equipment, then that was not the intention of my comments. I clearly stated that everyone’s input is important.

We’re all important parts of the RED family of adopters, reservers, posters, and interested observers. Everyone’s opinion is relevant and valid.

When I hopefully travel to Norway and Sweden this year, as I posted previously on another thread, I’m sure we’ll meet, and I’d be happy to let you check out my RED camera and perhaps go with me to shoot some footage with it. A large part of my ancestry is from Norway, with a fair amount from Sweden too.

Skoal!

Back to the subject matter of this thread: RED’s fun is also our fun. Bring it on! Every day it gets more fun for us to watch this project evolve…

Hi Gibby.

I'm sorry!
No offense meant.

Been a little low on sleep and a little high on caffeine. Doesn't excuse it, but I'm sorry still.

Cheers!

Gunleik,

No worries! Everyone is a little edgy as we wait for the new info from RED and bite our fingernails in anticipation of plugging RED One and its accessories into our productions. I don't have any fingernails left...I'm now up to the first knuckle and still chomping away!!

Cheers!

Hmmm, Gibby, you gave me an idea. A lot of my ancestors came from France...wonder if I could hook up with some French Red users, or interested people and they could show me the best places to shoot and eat.
Now as far as the Irish...bribe me with Michael Collins Whiskey....
