I can confirm both apps working as before (on OS X 10.5.1) on a nVidia MacBook Pro after the OS X 10.5.2 update and the Leopard Graphics Update 1.0.

Anyone on new octo-macs who have taken the leap?

Upgraded both last night with no issues on my 2.8 8 core. I haven't tried RedAlert, but RedCine works about as well as it did before (crashing every 2 minutes.)

Thanks, all.
I think it's time to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger.
I am going to buy Leopard and install to external HDD first.
Is Nvidia driver issue resolved?

Don't update if you're running XSAN or Shake....

Out of curiosity, what do you need from Leopard that Tiger doesn't offer you???

What's wrong with Shake on Leopard? I'm using it just fine... On a G5 Quad w/fx4500, 4GB RAM. Works fine here. No difference going from 10.4.11 to 10.5.x. Actually I just installed 10.5.2 yesterday, haven't loaded Shake since the upgrade.

I haven't run Shake in a while, but I think people were saying that it only uses 4 out of 8 cores on a Mac Pro when rendering on Leopard. Maybe a solution would be to create a two-instance virtual cluster in QMaster in order to utilize all 8 cores?

we are having issues on 10.5.2 with "connect to server" - anybody running TIGER SERVER? - please confirm or deny issues -

yes, that's true... Shake only uses 4 cores. But that's not a Leopard issue, that's a Shake issue. Only 4 cores under Tiger as well when you're on an 8-core machine.

We are running a Tiger Server...
Same "connect to server" fault on Qmaster.
Mark, do you think that I should upgrade to Leo Server?

I think APPLE is going to force us to move to Leopard as Tiger + Leopard = ball of sh*t
UPDATE:
install the "Leopard Graphics Update" and try again - SHOULD FIX apple file protocol - although I have ZERO idea whay that would be in a "graphics update" - again - please confirm (funny - we are doing live global "bug hunting" - while I am on location shooting Red in Florida!)

We're having old 3 GHZ 8-cores rendering on all eight under tiger.
It's also confirmed as a Leopard Issue in an apple support doc

I don't have a clear reason to upgrade ...
Which is better for RedCine ?
Tiger or Leopard ?

Ooops, my bad. I thought it was a problem on Tiger too. Hmmm...

Hi all,
I'm new to the Mac world, having taken the plunge in order to provide the best on set workflow to our clients.
With Apple Updates, can you pick and choose which ones you update?
e.g. I want to update to 10.5.2 but I DON'T want to update to Quicktime 7.4.x thanks to the bugs with DRM and Red software.
Cheers,
Paul

Yes, you can pick and choose your updates. However, that's not always a smart thing to do.
Not installing QT 7.4 will cause problems with the latest updates Front Row and iTunes, for example. Apple's crappy DRM updates in QT 7.4 are needed for the new movie rentals and other features.
It's always best to let others install the updates first and get some feedback before jumping to an update on a production system. I never update any systems in the middle of a project unless I'm already having problems and I'm desperate for a solution.

Yes, you can choose. When you do software update (or when the automatic update box shows up) they will give you checkboxes for the various components - usually they are selected automatically so you need to unselect them so they don't install.
Software update is in the apple menu at the upper left of your screen, as is the system preferences, restart, log out, etc.

A great convenience that I have found is that whenever you install any package (could be non-Apple), it puts a "receipt" in the /Library/Receipts folder on the Mac, and you can use that to get a listing of all files installed by a package. I always do that before installing a package so that I know where it is going to put files.
It is very helpful if you install a bad package and now want to manually get rid of all the files that it put on your system.
As an example: a listing of some files Quicktime 7.41 installed on my system:
./System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/QuickTime 100755 0/0 8419712 919254398
./System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/Resources 40755 0/0
./System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/Resources/._QuickTime.rsrc 100644 0/0 82 3028180313
./System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Dutch.lproj 40755 0/0
./System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Dutch.lproj/Localized.rsrc 100644 0/0 64723 3292648134
./System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/Resources/English.lproj 40755 0/0
