Hi,
maybe the answers i received to the same question can be useful to you: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8543

Also, at the end i'm going the ET way with a lot of things: baseplate, Vf mount, handheld

What res number you have? A lot of things are coming up in the next weeks, maybe you have time to pick the best for you

IMHO...why get the 18-85 & the 18-50? These cover the same focal lenghts (up to the 50) You would be better off with the 18-50 & 50-150.

I would also recommend loosing the 4 side handles...they really aren't good for much. The basic production pack has some issues too. I would recommend the ET Arri style 15mm or 19mm bridge plate and third party shoulder pad and handles. If you look around this site enough you will see all the problems with this gear. Also, I don't really see the need for the top handle ext. It does give you an extra place to secure to the body but really isn't necessary especially if you are going to put the camera on a steadicam etc.

The rest of your order looks good though.

Congratulations!

at least one more battery....Personally I want my AC to have 4 charged batteries at the beginning of a shooting day. I will order 2 chargers and 6 batteries

The mini bnc to bnc cables are a bad idea...they are flimsy and will break. ET has a very nice break out box that attaches right to the camera and is a solid choice. IMO

The rod included in the basic production pack are way toooo heavy.
Element P have light weight rods (you'll need them for Compendium/follow focus/mount your handles/battery&HD) I would take 3 different ones (12'' 18'' 24''). Check other products (like the BNC converter).IMHO

No need for all these rods...this just adds up $$$. Get the 18". You can slide them forward or backward enough for any configuration. If you are using a really long lens...say an Optimo 24-290...it will come with it's own rods and support bracket.

Just thinking of a config with hard drive on top or... You'll need more than only two rods... But I'm not the one who pays the bills :-)

Yes...you are right about having two sets of rods. I totally agree with the battery/cradle being mounted on top. To those who have not used the camera yet...don't be fooled by the pictures....Mounting the battery/cradle just behind the camera is a BAD idea...it obstructs the buttons and rear LCD display. You either have to mount it waaaayy back (and it still really gets in the way and causes a whole lot of other problems) or on top. I recommend on top.

If the 18-85mm is available now, along with the 50-150 (and you're only considering Red lenses), I would maybe go 18-85 and 50-150. The reason being that 18-85mm is a more useful/go-to range for a lot of situations and would save lens swapping time in the heat of battle.

Having said that, there might be other factors specific to each the 18-50 and 18-85 Red lenses that I am not aware of--optical performance, barrel size, overall size and weight, etc.--that should also be considered.

Thanks Danny!!

Actually i was mulling over the side handles as well...i just thought it would really cool actually...and doesn't it provide a mounting point for the evf??

The base production package, i'm getting, becasue it's relly good value for money....despite the problems brought up...

I might drop the top handle ext then...

cheers,

Yean,

Yes...the side handles do provide a variety of mounting points for the EVF and other aks...however...for the price of the 4 side handles (and a few extra bucks) you can get ET's EVF mounting bracket. It is selling for $960. and offers great flexibility for telescoping and tilting up/down etc. RED offers an isralli arm that IMHO is not a great way to manipulate your EVF.

In regards to the lens choices....yes I agree that the 18-85 is a better choice in focal lenth practacality but once again you will be doubeling from 50-85...plus the 18-85 is a bit pricey.

Don't forget about the ET BNC break out box too. You should keep an eye out for their site (et) which, according to Finner, shoud be up and running in a few weeks. (don't quote him/me on that thought) Just what is rumored.

Good luck and have fun,
Danny
