As some of you know I am the master of starting long and useful threads, but I've been sitting back for 6-8 months just watching Red make it's progress... (I'm just playing here).
The Red Brick 140.... Sounds a lot like my Anton Baur 140 battery.. So what's the deal here? Is Red going to accept multiple mounting options so those of us who have invested heavily in our batteries do not have to start all over?
Anyone know? Let's talk!
Jay
In case you are wondering.. My guess is, 'Of course they are'.. I just don't see Jim wanting to corner that particular part of the market.

Of course it will look and act just like V lock n AB but will be 3mm shorter and painted RED
Camera $17500 battery priceless?

I have to admit that battery (run)time is one of my primary "things-to-know" about RED.
Anyone want to guess the run time using RED with one RED magazine?

We know it will take V-mount batteries. We also know that there are lots of adapters on the market for AB Gold, etc.

How about twice as long as the same battery on a tape-based camera?
That is what I would imagine. The EVF should also be better than the LCD in terms of battery life I'm guessing. So that might have an impact.
Either way, I bet it is going to be excellent. A hard drive doesn't use up much power, and I'm doubting that the Mysterium will draw much either. As for the rest of the electronics, who knows...

I know I sound like an idiot when I do this.. But... Could someone explain to me exactly what V-mount Batteries are?

I have a feeling that monster processor may be more power hungry than a tape drive. My guess is about the same or a little less time than a tape-based camera.

Jay, it is an industry standard battery mount used on everything from the Sony CineAlta to the little Marshall HD monitors. It has just about completely replaced the old Gold Mount.
Here is a picture of the two mounts:

I would not say it has replaced the gold mount. most people I have seen here
on the east coast are all AB with the gold mount.

My BetaCam SP rig has the Gold Mount, but all my clients with gear less than 3-4 years old all have the V-Mount. Seems to be the way things are going.
