I am relatively new to RED and the camera capabilites but everything I see indicates that I will have to synch audio separately. If so, when and how will they address this very basic need?

audio is built into the camera

You have to take the audio from the QT wrappers, AFAIK
If you export anything but whole clips frm REDCINE/RedAlert, you'll have to line up the audio manually from the wrapper-proxies.

Wondering the same thing this morning. So if I edit the "shots" in a group of shots being output, audio won't attach, but if I output the entire clip audio will attach to the "converted/finished file?"

Just did a quick test based on the info above and no audio was included in the output file.

Nope.
What I meant (and said) is that you'll have to take the audio from the QT proxies, as it will disappear if you use RC/RA.
So: You won't get any audio from output files from RC7RA, just from the proxies.

am I correct in thinking you can only use audio if you shoot 2:1 as the 16:9 QT files do not work?

No. 4K 16:9 QuickTime files are not yet supported, but 3K 16:9 and 2K 16:9 work fine.

Hi Stuart
So I can't shoot 4k 16:9 and record audio in camera?
When will this be fixed as I have a shoot where we need to do just that.

Thanks Gunleik, so audio from the QT proxies only. Is there any degradation in quality? Are there any improvements on the horizon to improve the A/V integrated workflow or is this it?

no degradation in quality pulling audio from the QT proxies.

Much more audio workflow support is coming.
