QuickTime files play choppy--skip frames

Is anyone else getting this problem? I'm using QuickTime Player 7.3.1 (avoided upgrading to 7.4) I'm on a dual quad-core 3 GHZ xeon processor Mac, 8 GB ram; ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card; and yet, my QT files, created in Red Alert (4K 2:1) play choppy--skipping frames--at all resolutions, both in QuickTime Player and in FCP.

Is there something I have set up wrong? Anyone else run into this?

Try turning off "Use high-quality video settings when available" in Quicktime player preferences, if you have it on.
