The companies position was "no" so far. On OSX there would be iridas speedgrade as system, which also supports cineform - but no system on OSX can use the NVIDIA HD-SDI yet.

We can't even think about it until Apple decides to write a driver for and support the 4600/5600 SDI cards from NVidia.

...is there any particular reason why an AJA or Blackmagic product wouldn't work for SDI output?

Because Scratch and a host of other DI/Finishing solutions lever the power of the GPU on the graphics card to handle alot of the heavy lifting and processing (or lack of). AJA and Blackmagic are not built for that job.

On the subject....

I am about to order a MacPro Dual Quad with the NVidia 8800GT.

Does anyone know if there be any problems with Redcine or RedAlert? I am sure it will have Leopard and the latest QT.

Thanks for the info Sean, I guess once again it's back in Apples hands to make it work (as said in a previous post)

And it looks like Scratch is what we need :-)

No conclusive evidence yet. We're waiting on Rob Lohman's report on his recently purchased Octos.

It may be reasonable to assume that test results will be held up until the next version of RedCine is set loose.

In the spec. for running Scratch are listed also Non-SDI Nvidia video cards.
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4400
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5500
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600

The
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5500 is even listed as recommended.

In these case i think the only way to output a signal to a projector or a broadcast monitor is to use a specific video I/O cards.
Maybe you can't get realtime but you get something that can help you judging what you are doing.

To me realtime is a must to have only when I edit the timeline or when doing compositing but for grading isn't so important (12fps and i can work).

If i can make Scratch work with my existing hardware (APPLE Ciprico and Kona3) using Bootcamp for windows compatibilit, i'd love to use your incredible software.

Well what do you think of an OSX version thats non-realtime? thats limited functionality but that gives access to even the RED pre/post options you offer. i think that there must be a reasonable workaround for the driver situation since there would be no realtime playback. the coding should port easily.
you could then feasibly open up the output/viewing options to any high grade video card or blackmagic/AJA style card available for preview. im looking at this as mainly a workhorse situation where i could then take my setup files and transfer to a full windows realtime version in a suite but save myself some time and money doing alot of setup and in/outs myself.

i know there is a huge market hole there and scratch is certainly the better option to fill it.

heres a thread i started about a similar concept/non realtime scratch for mac (and windows to be honest).jsut a great low cost solid workhorse. id love to hear everyone thoughts on this as well.
