Looks like Im about to go Mac, I dont know much about FCP as Im a Pc user. I'm still toying with the monitor configuration...

My first thought was a 30" for editing and a 23" for the video preview (or digital desktop as I think it's known)

Then I thought, no, I hear the dell monitors are cheaper and are as good. So maybe a 30" and 24" Dell.

But ultimately I thought I could get 2x 24" for the price of 1 30" and more resolution area, so this is a long winded way of asking this question :

can I use 2x 24" inch displays to edit on and a third 24" to send the video output to? is that possible or do I need an extra gfx card?....

The 30" is really outstanding, I'm proud I bought it everytimeI turn it on.
And it's been over two years now.

They may come up with new displays sometimes soon though.

Yes, you'd need an extra card, and I'd suggest an AJA (as they work closely with Red and Apple) or a BlackMagic card to get a nice preview.

Some of these comes with DVI output, but genereally they're HD-SDI.
there are SDI to DVI alternatives out there.

If you want to go 1:1 pixel with 2k, the 30" is the only (data monitor) way to go.

thanks for the responses but i was thinking more along the lines of outputing via my gfx card. Lets say I had 2 nvidia cards in the mac. could I use one to show the video output and the other two for editing, without purchasing an expensive Kona or blackmagic card?
