Does anyone know if deposits are being taken by RED on the SCARLET yet? Or indeed if a deposit and order system of the ONE's style will be in operation?
Thanks

i think they said that there will be no reservation system, which implies that you pay as you go, therefore no deposits. but we won't know, probably, how they are planning to release cameras to buyers until the prototype is unveiled at NAB.

Jim did state that there would not be a reservation system for Scarlet. Now that may change or be modified for Red One owners but hard to say.

Could this possibly be a hint that it will be fairly cheap?

It will probably more hassle than its worth for a deposit system, considering what I think will be a sub 5k camera

If this camera is under 5k GBP (10k USD approx) Id be delighted, especially if it has 2k redcode and some of the features that we'd all like.

just put a deposit down on a redone so you can get priority on a Scarlett :-)

Actually the Scarlet has to be way cheaper than that, if you're approximating a $10,000 scarlet then why wait for it when you can buy a SI-2K mini camera, you can do that now.
What can make scarlet special as it being a 2k camera at a reasonable price.

Well it all depends on features, as far as Im aware the SI-2K mini is really not a camera, its a camera head. Im hoping that Scarlet offers more than a sensor and a lead for 10k, so I dont think you should be comparing them. The thing that I like about the RED ONE is that its a camera for people who know what cameras are to hold and use day to day. The SI 2K mini is for people who want to be impressed with capturing images of a high res and for me, those two things are different fields.
IF the Si-2k (not MINI) was 10000USD then id buy one.
Perhaps you are not hoping for a complete camera and just care about low cost for high res images.
In terms of reasonable, I think you are insane if 10000USD seems too much for a 2k camera of the picture quality of REDCODE. Maybe this is all lost in translation, but here in the UK a Sony EX1 costs approx 9000USD and if Scarlet is a complete camera using 2k REDCODE then I think that 10000USD is VERY REASONABLE.

It's not so much a loss in translation as it is a loss in conversion (of dollars that is). You must understand that over the last 4 years as the dollar has dropped in value, incomes haven't risen to fill the gap.

Yes. Im sorry I didnt mean to be insensitive to the US readers who have seen their currency dropping in the last few years. Its hard to appreciate the impact as I dont even know the equivalent earning rates for TV directors like me on that side of the pond. Still at least your petrol prices are reasonable compared to ours (9USD a gallon here) and your cars are generally a third less for exactly the same models.
All of which is extremely off topic, but hey I have to pass the time till NAB somehow.

Last time I checked, the SI-2K Mini was priced well ABOVE $10,000. I checked a few weeks ago. Of course with their price list they have a big "Don't tell anyone we are charging an insane amount" clause.
You'd be better buying a Red One than the MINI.
