Any body try a Century 2x PL with a RED lens yet? Waiting on the 50-150 but a 2x on the 18-50 might be interesting.

Yes, I've used a Century 2x with the RED 18-50, effectively making it a 36-100 zoom. Glass in the Century 2x is good, and the footage looked good. There's about a 2 stop loss. For certain shots it is an option I will explore further.

Gibby, where is the best place to pick one up? This would be an intrigueing option with my 300mm Red prime when outdoors and I have the light to spare.

Shawn,
You can find the Century PL to PL 2x on the Schneider web site - about $1.5k as I remember.
I've used it with my RED 300 several times. As you know, the RED 300 itself is a very crisp lens. The Century 2x is good, and the 300/2x footage was very crisp also.
I think you'll be happy with that setup if you want to shoot nature and sports - which is what I did.

Gibby,
Thanks for the info. If you were shooting two camera, both with RED 18-50, but one of them using the 2x to get ECU's and the like, do you feel that they would still match fairly well or does the 2x give the image a different 'look'?
Thanks!

The glass in the Century 2x doesn't seem to alter the "look" of the image much, outside of the longer focal length and narrower field of view. I've also tested an Optex 2x, with similar good results. IMO the 2-RED setup you described would work fine. In an RGB world the setup you described could potentially run into a disparity of look situation for inter-cutting, but when shooting RAW, shot matching is a bit easier when approaching and inter-cutting scenario.
