Just asking. Im about to buy a new Dell 24" for editing, but realised this could be a great field monitor too with it's HDMI socket.
We could use fairly inexpensive HDTV's to judge focus if it had 1080 out of the HDMI.

No, no plans. The HD Preview output (which is expressed on HD-SDI and HDMI) is 1280 x 720 pixels progressive scan. Both can carry the Focus Assist Waveform as an overlay to the video though.

But can you verify that there are still plans to release a firmware build (as stated earlier) that will support 1080p recording and output?

So we won't even be able to do dual HDSDI for 1080P?

i too interested to know about dual hdsdi option for 1080p monitoring. I thought this was in already available feature list?

Please tell us you are still planning some kind of 1080P output (whether it's trought single or dual HD-SDI out)....?
Also, is there any kind of technical limitation to not being able to output to 1080P via the HDMI or Preview HD-SDI?

Kind of makes the JVC 1080P production monitor I've been eyeing sort of useless if there's no 1080P output.

i read the above as the HD "preview" ( PVW - which uses a HD-SDI connector ) and the HDMI connector are 1280x720 ... nothing in there about the other HD-SDI outs ( single or dual ) being 720... so they could be 1080 out to use with that JVC monitor ?

1080p 4:4:4 was originally planned for the camera - why else would it have dual HD-SDI plus a preview port (and separate viewfinder and LCD ports)? This was also confirmed (at an early stage) by RED employees at trade shows. I remember seeing an interview of Ted on Youtube where he mentioned dual HD-SDI as an option.
But my guess is that RED found out that the camera's CPU just wasn't powerful enough to do all of that at once. Remember that the camera would have to be able to record 4K (converting to REDCODE) and downrez to both 720p and 1080p. Instead they're outputting the same signal twice (though slightly clipped on one port) to save processor cycles. Pretty clever from a programming / resource standpoint, I might say (being a part-time programmer myself).
I'm anxious to see if build 15 (with multiple outputs) will run hotter than the current build once multiple outputs are enabled. My guess is that it might run slightly hotter than now.
Clearly - all of the above is pure speculation and subject to change :-)

Think of how long it took to get the camera to scale to 1024x600 and 1280x848 simultaneously [which is coming in Build 15]. I don't even know if there's true debayering happening there. Creating a true deck-worthy debayer and scale in real time out of the camera over dual-link HD-SDI in 1080 seems like a pretty tall order.

No, I didn't say that. I said that the HD Preview output (which is one of the HD-SDI outputs and the HDMI output) is 1280 x 720p. There are also two more HD-SDI outputs on the camera - currently mapped to the same 720p signal. The comments about 1080p output is only available with 1080p recording still stands.

Indirectly confirming that some sort of 1080P is coming???

I believe RED is on the fence about 1080p output right now. They are still discovering what they can and can't do with their system as they attempt to tweak every erg of processing power from it.
