View Full Version : The RED I dreamed of is coming...

As I look around in the forum, I am seeing more and more companies designing and building 3rd party applications for RED.

NAB will prove to be an amazing experience with everyone showing off their different ideas to make the camera better

(And by the way, if any company needs a display camera at NAB for their cool stuff, please feel free to contact me and we'll work something out!)

I'm a tad dissappointed that due to current agreements, there won't be much in the way of post inventions. That will have to happen next year. Nevertheless it's exciting to see RED changing every day as more and more people start to say "you know, we could build this.. and this...".

This will be the true hunter-killer to companies like Sony, and others. They may be able to invent a cool camera like RED, but they will NEVER be able to keep up with 500 engineers all designing their own stuff for the camera at the same time.

I have been lucky enough to see some of the amazing things coming down the pipe for RED, and the next two months are going to be a lot of fun.

For a little while, I was nervous that Jim would have a hard time letting his "baby" into the wild as people begin to rip it apart and put it back together again, searching for its potential, but it would seem he's made his peace with it, and now it's turning into one hell of a ride.

From my view, the next "phase" of RED is coming. RED TWO will be built, not in the mad labs of Jim and Co. but in the thousands of garages and design firms through out the company who will take the RED ONE body, and pimp it into another world!

It's an exciting time!

No offense but I'm tired of hearing about RED TWO.

RED ONE has just been released and still has a veeerrry long shelf life.

If you're already fantasizing about RED TWO, be ready to hold your breath for a long, long time.

Before dreaming of Scarlet and RED TWO...I would be just happy to get the fully featured RED ONE...RED ONE has still so much unscratched potential that I can't even start dreaming of the next model... ;-)

I think you misread the point of his post--He is excited about all of the companies creating better accessories and supplimenting the workflow saying that all of these companies building products around the Red will make it so much better that it will essentially become "a Red Two" through their efforts with no new camera from Red...

Am I right, Jay?

That is the way I read it Thom. But I understand exactly where Alexander is coming from...

I am glad Jay is digging it. I also fully agree that companies like SIM, ET, VFS and Ugrip are going to get a lot of my money so that I can better realize my creative/professional potential with #557. I too was nervous... now if someone could just spill the beans on what ibloom and Offhollywood have put together it would help bring my blood pressure down a little.

Offtopic-Thom, I hope your having fun brother. I have not wanted to disturb your flow, but looking forward to seeing your work.

My pleasure--I feel the same way!

I've been so slammed for time that I haven't had a chance to do much testing other than point it at the kids and run around the neighborhood--I've worked that cost per hour down to about $10K!!!

That should change this weekend as we have a music video test scheduled and we'll even get to fly it on a Stedicam!

In that case Jay, amen man.

I'm loving all the new toys that are coming out for the RED.

Especially the ET hand-held system as well as the EVF mount.

Only thing that worries me is JAY is #327..
I've got a long long wait for #3338, #3339, #3340

Lets hope RED dial up production to at least 1000 per month.
(as well as 50 to 150's and EVF's)

What it means Ian is you do not want to go any where near Jay's cameras PL mount without a thick pair of rubber gloves on.

Yeah, I like it that RED is a kind of open platform, allowing for many gifted minds to supplement the technology and workflow.

That might be the funniest thing I've ever read on this forum.
