If anyone is interested I will pursue some sort of group purchase of A&J Filter Cases. I'm thinking about a case that will house 16 - 4 X 6.5 filters, 6 - 5.65 square filters, 2 - 138mm round filters, along with a compartment that would hold a couple of soft filter pouches and a cleaning kit. If you are interested please post here. Don't want it to get too big - your design thoughts would be appreciated

This is a picture of one of my existing A&J filter case. I grabbed a 4X4 case and took a couple of quick shots. A&J will make cases to accomodate any size filters.

The case is VERY light weight - I put it inside my acessory kit when travelling. The case you see in the pictures is almost ten years old and has seen a few trips around the world.

Funny, I always thought it an East Coast/West Coast thing, but then you're right in the middle. I've never liked these cases and know that most people on the East Coast share my view. But on the West Coast people do like them. My problem is that every time you open the case ALL the filters are open to the elements, which means that pretty much every time you go to use one it needs to be cleaned. I find the labelling of each filter harder and harder to read (easpecially with some manufacturers now painting the edges black) and if you want to expand or lighten your filter kit on a given job you suddenly have the wrong sized case. That and the ability to drop a few pouches in the run bag and not have to lug the case for every setup is sweet.

But again, I know plenty of LA studio ACs swear by 'em. East Coast/West Coast.

Hi Jim,

As you allready know, I'm in. Guess it's cause I'm west coast and rarely leave the comfort of stage AC.

Agree, I'd rather keep my filters in individual protective pouches and pull them as needed. A simple Storm case would be a lot lighter... and waterproof.

But I'm curious where you got the white dividers....

yeah nice cases. A lot easier to climb up a ladder or scaffold or chopper with a couple of velcro pouches in your bag though

I hate those open cases! and I'm about at westcoast as they get. They suck in the rain.

All valid points - but after a few filters inadvertently put in the wrong soft pouches by AC's in a hurry and a cracked filter in a soft pouch I went this way. Rain has never been an issue becuase I usually keep my accessory case, lenses and filters in the camera truck. Of course that is our style of shooting and I can see where it might not work for everyone.

BTW - this case only weighs about 1 pound.

As far as cleanliness goes - IF it is dusty the filters will pick up more dust - but it is much easier to avoid fingerprints.

White dividers were from A&J.

I like 'em individually wrapped as well. But a group discount at A&J would be cool if it wasn't limited to one case style. Keep us updated and thanks for checking Jim!

Just an update - working on a group discount on any A&J case - will let you all know what happens.

Here's the deal - A&J will give us a "preferred" price on ANY cases we order as RED owners but to get a substantial discount we would all have to purchase the same case in quantities of 10, 25, 50, or 100 units.

I spoke with Janet at A&J and we both feel that every owner will probably want to customize their cases a bit. They have some templates for RED that they are willing to share as a basis for discussion.

They are a good company and willing to work with us for whatever our case needs might be. The best thing for now is to email Janet at janet@ajcases.com (janet@ajcases.com) and tell her what your needs are. Make sure you mention that you are a RED owner and that you mention I suggested you email her.

I get nothing out of this but that way she will know that you were part of this discussion group.

David - she is sending along a quote and layout on the filter case. As soon as I have it I will send it along to you.

BTW - My RED gets here tomorrow. YAY!!!!

So everyone knows, Abel is a reseller for A&J and as such can probably get you the best rates possible. Janet is a lovely lady but please don't inundate here with a million & one vague case requests. That's what a company like Abel is for. We're happy to try to supply the best cases at the best deals.
