Just talked to Jacque at Transvideo. They are willing to modify their new HIGH BRIGHTNESS HD Steadicam monitor to show the RED overlays. They have contacted RED and have received no cooperation. He says they are unwilling to share information.
The RED LCD is nowhere near the size or brightness of the Transvideo which is a popular higher end Steadicam monitor. The RED lcd is also smaller and harder to see in lower light than the Transvideo Steadicam monitors. The RED lcd is really intended for the Asst. and for that is very nice.
IF it's true that RED tech. won't share info then they are not helping us Steadicam folk. Many of the purchasers of the RED are Steadicam ops. Seeing the overlays on the Steadicam monitor is critical for operation at a high level of the RED on Steadi. The current RED Lcd is not a good solution because it is not any why near bright enough to view while facing up in direct sunlight, and too small. This is not about competition with the RED lcd this is about additional needed capability.
The cooperation of red with those who make camera support equipment is crucial to the success of the camera in the Steadicam environment. All the companies who make Steadicam equipment should be recruited by RED to make their equipment RED compatable, not denied information.
