Ok, I'm getting 2:1 4K red files. I need to create in Compressor 4:3 full frame quicktimes (they're shooting 4:3 safe).
I've got my cropping down in compressor but am having a bear of a time getting it NOT to vertically squish my footage. I know this is because we're coming from a square pixel format (4K) to D1 pixels, but can't seem to make any setting in compressor compensate properly.
any clues?

(FYI, these are prelim tests. I expect a framing chart tomorrow which should help.)
Look at these grabs. It seems RedCine doesn't have the correct NTSC guides?? By all accounts, it should be cropping tight on the cup. In the Final Cut screen grab you'll see what Compressor made when I eyeballed the cropping I saw in Redcine. Notice Compressor default 4:3 cropping matches what you see when you size your Proxy in final cut to remove letterboxing in a 4:3 timeline

OK. I got a framing chart they shot. RedCine is giving false 4:3 guides. Compressor is right on. FYI.

I can confirm that the 1.33:1 NTSC 4:3 guides in RedCine are incorrect. They appear to be based on non-square pixel math; the area bounded by these guides is actually 1.48:1, which is equivalent to the aspect ratio of a 720x486 frame.
