I know early on several Redusers were getting custom housings made for their Red. Does anyone know if any of the vendors at NAB will have a ready-to-go standard housing or splash bag for Red?
I'd love to see a low cost (~$500) splash bag that would work with a standard configuration (Red, Production pack with smaller rails, LCD, Red Zoom). Then I could at least get my Red a few feet under for beach shots, heavy rain, etc.

Hi Shawn- the splash bags I've seen are not very "form-fitting" at all. It looks more like a really heavy duty, rectangular freezer bag, with a lens port. So I wonder if you could just use one already made for a similar size camera. I know they make them for betacams, etc. http://www.ewa-marine.de/index.php?id=6

Thats about the best bet until EWA Marine make a bag for RED, don't hold your breath though as its such a small market for them. Other than that others are charging north of 10k for respective housings intended for surf / dive filming apps.
Cheers,
Mark.

Shawn: you can get splash bags for prosumer camcorders in that price range but Splash bags for Broadcast size (and RED size) cameras run several thousand dollars - as they are made similar to a drysuit but are very low quantity and higher precision needed.
We make a PVC hard housing that Ken and Gibby have used for surfing which is about as light as it gets for a hard housing that sells for about $4K but also works fine for diving up to 175 feet.

Do you guys rent any of your housings?

Joe Holley at Marine Visions is committing to RED housing rentals, and he's a great guy, and knowledgeable...

Jeff: We certainly do rent - we've already done a few rentals with the original prototype PVC housings that Ken Corben has been shooting with and we have a half dozen of the aluminum ones almost finished - one of which is earmarked as mine/rental.
The bodies and endplates are done, we were just putting off welding the wings and top and bottom mounts on to see what Erik at Birger came up with for knobs. It is easier to make mods before the wings go on, but probably won't make much difference - but since all except Ken Corben's housing (which is setup for the Arri 8R) are for people planning on using the Birger mount we thought we would wait a bit; but I 'm getting antsy so will probably finish them off next week and get them to Hardcoat (hard anodizing).
For those that would like a bit of a description here is some info from the other thread.

Shawn - AirSeaLand has TWO underwater products for the RED coming. Testing protos soon - pics and details to emerge .... you will be happy.
