Hey guys, several questions
1.) I plan on getting the Arri Matte box for my Red and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. So far I've purchased:
Arri MB20 II package
Arri MB-20 Side Flag Set
Arri Top Flag (eyebrow)'
And their follow focus : Arri FF-4
Is there anything additional I need to purchase from either Red or Arri to ensure everything works? ie base plates, etc
Also what length is more standard in the business, 15mm or 19mm
Thanks in advance

You need to have the proper mount for the rod size you decide on. As well as the proper rubber donut for the lenses you plan on using. Also don't forget filter trays, I don't think the MB-20 comes with any.
As far as rods, 15mm offset is the US West coast standard and the most common among larger rental houses out here. On the east coast they use both 15mm and 19mm and in Europe they are mostly 19mm at this point.
If you plan on renting any gear on the West coast of the USA go 15mm, if not 19mm is your huckleberry.

No filter trays come with the box. How about the hard mattes? Bellows ring?
Also, the FF4 - You might want to consider the right side focus knob, extension, whip, speed crank.

How much different is the MB 20 than the MB 18? I found that the MB 18 was vignetting the Red lens at 18mm with the tray spun vertically. Any issues with that on the 20?

thanks guys for the replies.
a few more questions, so is their anything specific on the Red site i'll need to purchase to make sure everything works, besides the 15mm mount or could i subsitiute the arri mount for Reds?
Also, is this necessary for the follow focus http://www.filmtools.com/arri-ba-3-381412.html
Thanks again!

You will need this as well as that.

this does not come with the base production pack which
will only work with the 19mm Diameter rods. Oh, and 15mm
and 19mm refers to the diameter not length of the rods.

Hi,
We know from Finner video that it is best to buy the ET dove tail and the Bridge. But since we ordered the Red base production pack, this alone should be able to handle the Arri-20, if I am not wrong. Or do we still need to buy the ET bridge to work with the Arri-20?

you just need to buy the 19mm adapter for your MB-20 matte-box as well as for your ff-4 since that is what the red is based upon.
Here is for the follow focus
http://www.filmtools.com/arri-ba-2-19mm.html
and here is for the matte-box
http://www.filmtools.com/arri-19mm-rod-adapter-mb-20-338684.html
With these 2 adapters, you could work with the base production pack.

$587 bucks for a rod adapter?
what on earth could make it so expensive?
