Did a quick currency check and thought my fellow Aussie & NZ Red buyers may be interested in this, the Aussie $ at 24-year-high against the Greenback (great if your in the next batch of Reds being served).

Yep and we have a couple more interest rate rises to go. We might make 1aud = 1 usd I might be able to look at those primes. Shame about the mortage on the house costing me a fortune.

yes, that is my other 24 x 7 end of the phone job. Red is more of a professional development interest.

I'm hoping for a dollar for dollar exchange rate by the end of the month, but then again, I'm not a financial analyst by any means. Still, this quote looks promising (quoted from http://www.stockhouse.com/mediascan/news.asp?newsid=10344699):
"The dollar hit its peak in 2001, and it has been sliding ever since. Foreign currencies have hit all-time highs vs. the dollar recently, especially since Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke all but told Congress last week that the Fed will cut rates at its March 18 meeting."
Bring it on ...

I keep a very close eye on the exchange rate.(For my Scarlet purchase) The NZ Dollar has been very good against the greenback as of late 2010.

Yeah, I definitely locked in the bulk of the purchase with Red ages ago. Things can change very rapidly with currencies.

Yeah, specially when the Fed. administers "quantitative easing" (printing money) by truck loads  Who knows, you may be able to buy one get one free deal on the greenback - that be nice.

You do realize that currency fluctuations represent a two edged sword for locations like Australia, Canada, and others. On the one hand, equipment that you might want to purchase from an American vendor gets "cheaper." But on the other hand, you're going to see a lot fewer US productions coming to shoot in those locations when the exchange rate is not favorable for the Americans.

Excellent. This would be a welcome change to the Australian film makers and producers. You see, as Australians, what we need is MORE Australian productions and fewer American productions.
It is a myth that bringing foreign film makers into the coutry creates wealth for that economy. It actually destroys it.
In Australia, we have huge natural assets that we give away for free to foreign film makers by relaxing and not upholding proper permits (work visas) to foreign production companies (like the BBC, Nat. Geo., NHK, etc...). Even Indonesia protect their own film makers by requiering strict work visa conditions.

I can only hope that our dollar will be this strong when the Epic-S is available to non-red-owners.. But who knows when that will be :(

And I hope you're enjoying them as I speak Pawel ;-) Trust you're well and perhaps we'll see you on 1 March at Ted's presentation? Would be great to catch up and see how Grace is progressing.

Pawel, you shouldn't talk about our women like that! :nono:
Besides, I thought the "Sheilas for Celluloid" bill was overturned last year 4 to 3.

And I thought this thread was dead. Curious to see what the exchange rate is after QE3 and QE4, or when the US raises the Debt Ceiling. At what point does a nation realize its credit-card is maxed out?

This thread should definitely be renamed "Huge Natural Assets".

I'd say it won't be obvious to them until China comes in and annexes Manhattan for 30 years in deference to loan repayments.
I shudder at the idea of a country being 13 Trillion dollars in debt. Just cannot comprehend it.
Having said that, I am looking forward to a family holiday to the USA mid year.... hopefully will be able to pick up a camera in person while we're there and then go and give it a good work out on a Disney cruise through the Bahamas.

I've been on that cruise, it's great for families. Especially when they drop you on their private island for the day!
Exchange rate almost $1.02 today.

Really looking forward to it Jim. Only issue right now is finding travel insurance. It seems cancer patients are not a good insurance risk... surprise, surprise! If it was Europe I'd be fine but from what I understand you don't want to get sick in the USA without insurance. Very lucky to live in Oz.

Yikes. So no Visa gold card? That gives automatic travel insurance for the whole family if you buy your tickets with it, not to mention the points!
Maybe get one, I don't think they have a medical check under 70.
