Fixed lens
Options for 35mm DOF
Awsome redness
Will be so cool looking that celebrities will use em.
I don't know about lcds and evfs, but it should be pretty good.
Hd/SDI out would be nice but I doubt it.
Who knows it could be a 35 sensor at 1080p, but wait isn't that Genesis land.
Whether it's a super cine cam or a good prosumer cam I'll take 7:)

Finner - You don't know me, and I don't know you, but I gotta say that I'm worried about you man. Early on in these forums you were funny, a bit wacky, more hopeful, but lately you've been sounding a bit jaded. I know you've had some one on one time with Red One, has your experience burned you a bit? Maybe it was the release of that god awful Knight Rider remake that pushed you over the edge, but it's like... I don't even know you anymore... we've grown apart... I miss reading the old Finner.
Oh, and I think you're probably right on this one.
Someone mentioned 120fps on CF only. Red One can't do that so it ain't gonna happen here either. I also don't think they'll give a $5,000 camera a PL mount. I don't see them doing anything to hurt their marquee product.
My best guess is that it'll be a small prosumerish camera with a fixed lens with full manual control that records to Raw. Raw will be the main thing that separates it from the competition in the sub $8,000 market.

Actually I am just screwing with the scarlet fanboys that get all hyped up. For all I know the scarlet could be ready shortly after NAB?
As for jaded I don't think that is the case. Just maybe a little tired of people stating incorrect facts. The red is a great camera and I am looking forward to getting it. Is the red a film killer or better then the big dollar f23, dalsa or others? NO, but it is a fantastic camera and produces much better images then many HD cameras on the market.
So sorry if I have sounded grumpy or appeared to tear down the red camera as I do feel very highly about the camera and its images.

My guess....(Skip if you don't want a boring retread, probably all been said elsewhere in this forum)
Whatever Scarlet's shape or design or features it will be something that you'd have to be a fool or very very brave to try to use as an A-camera.
Jim is not stupid. It will not be anywhere near to the Red camera. It will not be remotely close to a viable alternative to shooting on Red. It will not be anything that presents a prospective buyer with the choice - "Hmmm, the Red is incredible, but I could just shoot my indie feature on Scarlet and look how cheap it is. 2k is more than enough." Not gonna happen. All been said a million times before. I think everyone probably realizes that by now. Not an "HVX killer," not an "EX-1 killer," probably not even an "HV20 killer."
What does that leave? I'm not sure. Maybe something we haven't even realized we need yet. I'm pretty certain that while there are going to be lots and lots of whiners about what it turns out NOT to be - it will be very very cool.
So....Red reservation holders get priority. It's something they would want. It's somehow complementary to Red.
An extra recording head that attaches to Red?
A super high speed module?
A crash camera?
A Behind the scenes/production diary/location scouting camera?
A lipstick camera to fit where Red can't?
Barebones prototype with base features enabled at NAB
First run for Red owners shipping by end of year, open ordering early '09.
My 2 cents. A final bit of speculation before Nab is upon us. :)

Is that still the case? I remember that idea being thrown out there at the beginning but somehow I thought it had gone by the way side. If that's still the case then... ah hell, who knows. Guess we'll find out in a month.

I think I'd be happy with my 5D then. Plus it sort of goes against it being a motion capture camera, but I guess you can capture motion with a still camera if the frame rate was high enough.

Somebody hasn't been reading these threads. When people are posting 4K, 35mm sensor, etc, it's kind of impossible to live up to the unrealistic expectations some have.

My guesses:
1) Will DEFINITELY shoot 2k minimum
- based on Jim's repeated statements these formats (720p and 1080p) are a "WASTE of time":
2) Not 4k
-not only is not supposed to compete with Red One which already shoots 4k, wouldn't shooting 4k require 35mm glass thus requiring to be no longer "pocket"?
3) records to CF.
totally makes sense..they have red cards, they know they work, and it's compact enough for a "pocket" cam.
4) shoots RAW
anything less is uncivilized.. offifically announced Scratch Support pretty much confirms it will shoot raw imo.
5) 4,999.99
Just a guess like anyone else.

114-degree AOV fixed zoom lens (14-24mm equiv in 35mm still film)
1/4" 2K 24-30p sensor
RAW, CF
$5,000
I think the principle clues Jim has given us is that it's for professionals and it will have a far wider market appeal than the RED ONE. So what's the one shot that you can't get today with any mass-market camera, or even the RED ONE?
Wide-angle, cramped-corner shots! Think David Mullen's capsule shot in The Astronaut Farmer, or the dashboard shots on The Office (their quality is so poor that they stick out like camera-phone footage). Such shots require a pocket size, wide angle lens, and would beautifully complement the RED ONE. Plus, it would be revolutionary in an industry fixated on telephoto and high zoom ratios.
There is a severe lack of high-quality wide angle high-resolution cameras right now. The best value right now is the 68-degree AOV, such as I get with my XH A1; and even then the lens is riddled with chromatic and spherical abberations, distortion, coma, vignetting, you name it. (Not to mention the additional degradation brought on by adapters if you want to get into ultra-wide territory.)
It will be for people who have the good taste to appreciate wide angle cinematography.

It will come guys, just gotta be patient, everything at the right price and time, everything will come unless some kind of natural disaster happens, but if you see what we had twenty five years ago and what we have now, it makes you think, and the development of new technologies is constantly geometrically speeding. If everything goes cool, let´s see in another twenty five years, could you imagine how our tools will be, but I guess that a good lense will always be a good lense, unless they pull some weird based gelatin scanners that pick up density and reflection and process it like the eye, it might be infinite, and you can pick up a microspe and you would be able to see as far as you want, but there are limits, I guess our own eye, so that is where we are aiming for. And good looks, and we will always need a good script, and the dessire to tell a story. I believe we are priviledged to live at this time and place that we can afford to play with human minds and amazing toys, instead of making our own bread or searching for water of health, you know, the basics.
By the way I´m shooting a feature in Quito, South America. I want to shoot with red, I´m not a tech genius like some of you, but I´m not stupid and I´m certain the future has leaped like ten years at least thanks to red and I want to start with the right foot. I need a red in the month of August, wanna shoot for 40 days and get amazing visuals. That is my expertise, playing with images. As a cinematographer, my dream is to make it perfect. And most important, I will need a genius that rocks, that nows everythng about the camera. So if you now anybody that is interested to join this adventure please let me know. And from now on I will use the right post, but I just like some of the dry sarcasm in some of the answers to the thread.
Thanks
