....that I have done a whole bunch of bitching and moaning on this site. Actually let's just call it being critical. Now that I've had it in my hands for a few weeks with our glass I'm so impressed and feel a tad guilty about being so critical. Professional filmmaking environments demand very high expectations and tolerances. Maybe we're all a bit anal? I've always been so interested in this project and it's success. I just wanted to see it succeed. Very promising It represents so much of what I stand for and taking the power back into the hands of the filmmaker while still making good commercial product.
Jim and co... Nice f*&$ing work! Can I buy you all a beer?

100mm S4 t/2.8 (quick and dirty very slight curve added)

slightly steeper curve. same lens. the light source is very hard and makes the skin detail a bit well....i actually think if this was lit properly through an 8x8 or something... the red is very friendly to it's detail. we were just quickly testing. more to come in footage thread.

Yeah. That's not very fair to her. We were just testing and normally I would diffuse that source heavily with a 8 x 8 fullgrid and a light or something. It's very hard. I think the red is very friendly in that sense actually. I'm going to pull that CU pic and put something else up.

We just did a shoot with the Optimo on a Red a couple weeks ago. I don't have a lot of other footage of my own to compare with yet, but I'm very definitely pleased with the results we got.
My DP kind of shrugged, but he's totally one of those "It's just another camera" "It's just another lens" guys, lol. He didn't complain, which means he liked it! Haha!

The Optimo 24-290 is all you can really ask for with a zoom of that range. Optically it matches primes(s4's, UP, MP) and to have a 2.8 all the way through is huge. I shoot wide open on it all the time. On a night exterior I don't have to think about lighting a bit more to accommodate a T3.5(HR) if the director wants a zoom shot and the rest primes handheld.
It is a big lens for sure. However if you are in studio mode all day you may never need to take it off. No breathing as well.

Glad to hear such great things about it, as it is one of those things in my "to have" list.
Even better that it matches the MP's are those are as well in my list.
Unlike your guy, I do look for specifics in all the gear for my Production company, as when you are buying, and not renting, or working on some one else property, everything matters, and choices made for your investments will reflect in to the final results of every project they will be used in.
I'll look forward to test that BIG bad boy.

I have a few ideas as well for focus systems. I was going to give them to ARRI a few years back but then I was caught up in the filmmaking. Which is my main priority. If you want to hear. Or just BS and drink beer.

what system do you run for handheld work? I am looking at the Zacuto rig, are there any other serious options available?

Well a operator would never have to pick that setup up. (pan, tilt and invoice). That the 1st's job. For handheld our red handles have actually been working well. I think we will modify the wing nuts to something better to get even more grip. For the shoulder we plan on using ET's shoulder pad.
My friend broke the Zacuto rig once. I have no experience except that story.

Thanks.... that sounds like a good way to go. I will look into it, the Zacuto rig is quite expensive as well so if I can get the RED bull bars to work that would be ideal.
