i enjoyed all the speculation for a while, but its time for my last post until Nab:

I hope that Scarlet does not dissapoint us. The cash is ready for it. If it plays its cards right, a huge market is for it. I know Scarlet will be revolutionary since Jim mentioned something like it comes every 25 years. Waiting anxiously with one month away. I wish the red team all the best.

The anticipation of Scarlet is one of those things that puts me out of balance.
How much time do I spend:
Savoring, researching, re-playing, or regretting the past?
Anticipating, speculating, planning, fearing the future?
Living in the moment?

The Scarlet discussion takes ten minutes out of my day with no value added. It devouers mind share. It is that beacon in the distance that draws ever closer, distracting me from editing hours of technically disapointing JVC GR-HD1 video I ought to be working on for friends and family for the future instead.

Until NAB, I'm going to spend those ten minutes enjoying my goddess wife and awesome toddler daughter. I'm swearing off camcorderinfo.com too, so make it 15 minutes more for life in the here and now.

Yeah, I think I'm just about done too. All the Scarlet threads have become cyclic anyway - rehashing the same speculation over and over again. Without any new information what is the point? I'll take the month off then come back and "enjoy" the discussions switching from speculation to evaluation (It sucks! It rules!). Heh. See you all on the other side!

arun, since I believe a test somewhere on the internet (that raised a lot of controversy and fanboy flamewars) found that the f23 was better than the red (but a heck of a lot more expensive), I doubt that a pocket camera not meant to eclipse the red will beat most professional 2k hd cameras. I don't think that's its purpose.

John,

I am no fanboy so don't raise your heckles but can you quantify 'better' before this gets into a 'mine's bigger than yours and I say so or my dad will beat up your dad' scenario.

I think there's an irony to Scarlet. Red was announced, and the specs were laid out so that everyone knew what to expect. Scarlet hasn't really been announced, its been acknowledged, and no one knows what to expect. In that respect, my expectations are very low.

It's out of character for Red to keep these details close to the chest, unless this really is not meant to compete in any way professionally with Red.

... I'm thinking the same thing...but has to be a standalone product. right? And if it is, then it's good enough for anybody.

Definitely a stand alone piece.

Well, its kind of like Oakley sunglasses. Oakley has the high end 400 dollar models and the more affordable 90 dollar pairs. They both do the same thing but don't really compete with each other.

IMO key word is "pocket" ... think small ...
Red one was larger then most thought it would be ...
scarlet should be smaller then the we expect ...

WILL Scarlet be a mini-pocket-/pocket-mini-camera? Yes. And the pros WILL put it where the Red One canīt go(cramped interiors, crash scenarios, etc.) and the indies WILL jump all over it for S35mm 2k sensor, raw codec and low price.
Or at least, I hope.:bye2:

No viewfinder or lcd, though.

WILL

No viewfinder or lcd, though.

How will you compose a shot?

my last words on the subject

1080p
mini xlr inputs for 2ch. audio
flipout lcd. 2.5" or 3"
no lens but choice of still photo mounts, but more likely fixed lens.
shoot to red code on cards or AVCHD or maybe the new codec Vermillion!!

How will you compose a shot?
The same way you compose a shot on the RED ONE using an attached imaging device, like a LCD or viewfinder/EVF, but this would obviously increase the total cost of a functional Scarlet-system, but I would be coherent with the upgradeable (accessory)system RED has laid out.

stricly conjecture --> digital version of a Bolex 8mm in terms of styling and form factor (maybe tiny bit smaller). Proposed specs --> [35mm still lenses? (don't think so) but I do think maybe a RED branded fixed lense ][flip out display][1080p/720p][solid state media][price less than $1,000]

I'd like to be able to use Scarlet with the RED LCD that I'll already have. I think that would be nice. Would that be possible?

Jointski
03-26-2008, 02:51 PM
I think that will be the case with the Scarlet as far as LCD requirements. Whatever the case may be, as long as you can get a 2K res out of it, record audio and interchangeable lens, then I think you are good to go.

My last words
I keep it out of mind till NAB.

He done it with his glasses
He done it with the RED one
He will do it soon with Scarlet
And the devil will do it in future with projectors
And maybe he will stop making cams and make a redCar or maybe an yellow oh soory red submarine
This man is simple a devil
Wasīnt there a story about an red apple.....

It would be cool if scarlet projected captured files...images i should say ! , now that would be a cool camera !

Im hoping it will double as some kind of adaption for the Red One
