#692 is finally here!
I've spent a fun day pick'n'plucking.
Ensure that the lens cap is in place and a formatted CF card is installed before starting a BLACK SHADING operation.
Does this mean that those of us who don't have compact flash cards can't install firmware updates? Are we permanently stuck with Build 13?

You can use any flash card though - doesn't have to be a fast one. Go get a cheap one from the computer store. The updates are under 10megs... so even a 64 meg would work I think.

Just downloaded Build 15 and read the ops manual - apparently works with a Red Drive attached instead of a CF Card, so all well here.

If black shading means black level monitoring in different locations on a sensor, then shouldn't that be done dynamically all of the time when the camera is on and providing frames, instead of doing it once during the calibration process. Otherwise, it might result in those funky purple/black things seen when camera is pointed towards bright light source.

I like the concept. Red might even call it Helpful Insights or whatever.
That being said, after all these months in reading these threads, I find it a bit demeaning to call these guys "employees," even though that might be what they are. "Staff" is a bit more equalizing, but I like "Partners" better since these guys, even if it's in their employee manual, have been there for all of us all the time, even if we don't like there answers.
