How many of you doods are pawning of your cameras after you get you REDs?

I'm worried that the resale value will be low by the time I get my RED

Already gone. Sold it 2 or 3 months ago. I only got 6k for the camera (with very low hours), two 8GB P2 cards, and a porta brace bag. That was when one P2 card was being given away with the camera. I'm not sure if that promotion is still going on.

Just ask all the potential buyers you might have
"Dude have you heard about RED"
If they answer Yes, I am going to NAB to put my order in"
then say -
Great - I will give you a shout after I get my RED.
If they respond do you mean RED Bull? The new flavor?
You say yes and by the way - my HVX200 is for sale,
I will make you a great deal and throw in a case of RED Bull....

Haha great idea Red Guy

I would sell my HVX yesterday but I know that I'm going to need it up until the time I get my RedOne sometime this summer

I made the mistake of selling m DVX100a, months before the HVX came out to make the max resale value, but then I lost jobs in the process

Either way I paid for the damn thing so it doesn't really matter

$6K ain't that bad..

I was hoping to get $6K for my package which will consist of,

HVX+4GB card, 8GB card
4 batteries - 2 chargers - Portabrace Bag - UV filter
Brevis35 w/ Cinefuse1 & Cinefuse3

Anything less than $6K, and it will sting like a jellyfish

I NEED TO RENDER OBSOLESCENCE OBSOLETE ALREADY, DAMN...

I think it's time we form the REDUSER HVX200 resale price fixing alliance! Hehe.

My HVX200 package will consist of:

HVX - all original packaging, media, docs, accessories standard battery
2 * 8GB cards
2 * 4GB cards
3 additional Spec-Comm batteries
Barry Green's HVX Book

I think my camera shows 0 hours on it because I honestly don't think I've ever put a tape in it! All work done with P2 cards.

I'm keeping the bag I use for it. It's an older bag that I've had for a while and I use it for other things on occasion.

I may just dump this package as soon as the current free 8GB P2 card promotion is over. Which is in 2 weeks... In some ways I don't want to be without out it, but I have plenty of other things I can work on for the 4 to 5 months lead time in between selling and getting RED. Or at least I think I do and I may just gamble on it. Hey, I've still got my Sony HC3 handycam. :w00t:

I have a feeling that Panasonic will UP the anty on their promotion after their free 8GB card deal expires

I've been enjoying the HVX but am now getting very excited about RED...and though the small HVX could be very handy for specialty shots I am considering letting it go. I also have a Sony D600 Betacam SP widescreen camera that still generates a lot of work for me...but that may be on the block soon as well!! I see SD fading away pretty quickly and I'm getting more and more calls for HD. It's just getting the producers to get over the whole tape issue!

I'm also on the list for a Cineporter but that may be an accessory I can live without now...and it hasn't even made it to market yet.

I think Barry covered the usage of different cameras at different times. I would think that if a person could afford to keep the HVX kit and buy RED that would be the best scenario. Now, of course that's a lot of cash, but maybe not so much for those of you out there making money off your cameras.

As amazing as RED offers to be, I can almost gaurantee there will be times for most shooters where grabbing the HVX and shooting is going to come into play.

Have your cake and eat it too. :)

I'm hoping they don't shake things up until NAB -- gives me about a 2 week window to sell. :) OTOH, a lot of potential buyers may wait until after NAB to buy anything.

As amazing as RED offers to be, I can almost gaurantee there will be times for most shooters where grabbing the HVX and shooting is going to come into play.

I think my main reason for selling the HVX is that I'm just tired of Panasonic's P2 politics. Like controlling production quantities to induce artificial demand and to keep prices inflated. Not only that, but they milk the 4GB card version for all it was worth, now they're doing it with the 8GB card. We were told last year at NAB that in six months we would have 16GB cards. Here it is 11 months later and still no 16GB card and the price on 8GB cards has only dropped $125. 16GB cards won't release until May to go along with the HPX500 and there's still no word on pricing.

In addition to that, the HVX just doesn't "do it" for me anymore. Yes, the color is great, but the resolution is not. It's image is often noisy. I would rather sell the HVX and my HC3 and get a new Canon H20 or Sony HC7. I need something for home movies or those times I just want to grab something and shoot. And if I'm going to be that lazy where I'm not going to lug the RED around, then what makes you think I'd pick up the chunky HVX and fumble around with swapping P2 cards while I shoot? So I'm going to sell it while it's still worth more as a camera than as a doorstop. Once my RED arrives, I really have no intention of shooting anything professional with anything else, even if it is a talking head that doesn't need to be HD.

I would sell mine long ago to try and keep the resale value up but I have a need for it until Red comes in I too am concerned about losing too much resale value but my consolation is whatI have earned with the camera this last year. In some ways I feel that Panasonic ripped early adopters with that 8GB rebate.

Same boat with my HVX. I'd love to offload it now, but I've got some work to do. Maybe all but one of us can sell, and we can share one for several months. Richard, how about you?

I use mine too much - I really love my HVX+Brevis35 setup despite all its flaws - That's partly why I'm going up to NAB this year. I need to see this RED in all its glory to convince every fiber within my eyeballs to truly risk everything financially to buy this camera - I'll wait to offload my HVX until a week before my potential Reddy ships

well I hope the HVX200A or whatever rev version is half the price.

well I hope the HVX200A or whatever rev version is half the price.

According to Jan from Panasonic, there is no updates coming for the HVX200 right now and if they show anything new at NAB it will be the HPX500. (read 16GB P2 cards). She also said that the current 8GB P2 promotion is just that, a promotion, it doesn't mean they are introducing any new cameras or drastically changing prices. The HVX still sells briskly, keeping their production lines busy and they produce P2 cards in just enough volume where you have to try a bit to find them.

Honestly, I think Panny is going to have a lackluster NAB show. Which in some ways is good. I don't want them to rock the boat until I offload my HVX.

You probably won't see much promotion from Pana on their tape based cameras. You might have a VariCam here and there but they are really going to push this HPX500 - I think the chip is the PAL version from the SDX900 doing that H&V offset to get to HD....don't want that.....
All the big companies talk of support?? What support? When my DVX100 went south I had the hardest time finding a shop to fix it. And then they did a crappy job. I had a question about my RED reservation and Kelly called me....
I hope RED stays focused on the customers - so far so good!!
I have my HVX pre-sold to a producer. I let him use it when he needs to
but I have the cash in hand and still get to use it when I need to!!

Different cameras for different uses. I can't think of a corporate client who would want 4K (at least my corporate clients anyway). They're happy with 720P and DVD. Other sports clients perhaps but I'm thinking mostly drama work with my Red.

The resale value on a gently used HVX is brutal with the P2 card included, etc. I feel like I'm grabbing my ankles for what people are offering.

We plan on keeping ours and using it for budget HD work and those productions that don't warrent or couldn't afford a Cinalta or Varicam Level production. For those we'll use RED
