I've been thinking about accesories that the RED camera is going to be needing. One item that I have not seen mentioned is a crash housing. With it's compact size and low profile the RED would be perfect for this use! Here in Orygun we have lots of scrap metal due to the fact that ninety five percent of the wood mills have been shut down. This is mainly due to those tofu sucking, tree hugging hippies up in Eugene. Anyhow as I say we have lots of good scrap iron laying around and everybody has a welding machine in there barn or shed, (gotta have one to fix the brush hog when it breaks down not to mention doing occasional spot welds on the gun rack in the pickup). So I'm thinking, Hey here's a way to make a quick buck (oh that reminds me gotta pick the deer rifle up from the shop). As I used to make these suckers for Eyemos back when if anybody would like to drop their camera off for a couple of months I'll get right on it.

yours,

Chuck

You're a hoot, Chuck. In Chicago we prefer tommy Guns to rifles--not that there's anything wrong with that, though.

So, what's a barn?

Hey Formerly lpcvideo1,

Yeah I'm hep. I was born in a booth of a bar in Hillside, Illinois. (Charleys Tavern) You certianly knew who you were buying your liquor from and who supplied the jukebox, pool table etc. I grew up in the little town of Lake Zurich. I think that's part of the reason I moved to So. Oregon after living in L.A. for thirty five years.
Oh, a barn is a place you put anything that won,t fit in the shed.

I've got some friends that live in Lake Zurich, over by there.

Oh, barn. You mean where you keep the snow mobile.

Chuck you crack me up!

I love Orygun! I bought a house on 20 acres of forest on the West side of Mount Hood, in 1977 and lived there for 2 years - it was unreal! I was livin' the full-on Grizzly Adams thing - big beard, dirt bike, guns, and a "Don't Californicate Oregon" sticker on my F150 (which I put on it as soon as I moved to Oregon from California!). A stream went through my acreage - I'd fish for dinner.

The downside was that the next town up the mountain was named Zig Zag. Friends and family got a lot of mileage out of that!

That's the ticket!
That and the 1963 Alaskan pop up camper that doesn't quite pop up all the way on one side.
Oh and the gas powered log splitter you don't show anybody cause they will think your a wuss.

Gibby,

Jeeze Gibby this is too wierd! My truck is a 1977 F250. My bumper sticker says "The more people I meet the more I love my dog". I had 19.7 acres on (I swear this is true) Dead Indian Road. Which was just around the bend from Howard Prarie and Hyatt lakes two of the premier trout fishing lakes in Or.
Oh, and by the way there is a old movie theater that has been shut down for years in the lovely little town of "DRAIN" just off of I-5 that would make a wonderful screening room for 2/4k! lol

All these toys make it dang hard to git onta the Grizzly quad or Kawasaki Mule...

Hey Gibby,

If you are ever doing any shooting up this way, I would be proud to pull cable, hold the shinney board, provide security (Colt 357 King Cobra with hydra shock rounds and Jake the dog who is a 130lb. Alsatian/German Rottweiler mix) for you.

I'll make a point of stoppin' by. I'll bring the RED One, RED Bull, (sorry no Panama Red), and my longbarrel S & W .44 magnum, and you bring the .357, vittles, dawg, and poles.

By the sound of Jake, guess I better leave the wife's Corgi at home - but the wife's my sidekick almost everywhere I go...

Just remember to leave the none RED hardware behind when you come shooting across the border.

Reminds me, I better go shopping for a flack jacket before I head off to Vegas.

Nah. Skip the flack hacket. Cut the sleeves off your jeans jacket and get a hat. Or a bandana.

Well All,
This has been fun. I tossed that crash camera thing in yesterday cause some of the threads seemed to be getting a bit tense and filled with terse thoughtless postings and thought a little comic relief was in order. I just want to say thank you all for the excelerated learning curve about things I don't know squat about. (I readem all, then again I also read technical journals for light reading). lol
Mayby down the road, a thread on humorous location happenings, rural, (you know,"What the hell is that thang") or other wise could be fun.
Once again, thank you all.
Hey Bro Anansi,
Yeah it's gotten a bit tight at the border to the "Great White". Easier to go south where you just pay your way. hehe
Speaking of paying... whats this crap about Amuricans having to pay ten bucks to get back into their own country? I thougth we bought Canada!

Chuck

Oh as an after thought, "In the land of the blind the one eye camera man is king"

LOL!! Chuck & Gibby - you guys crack me up -

You know, it would be really amazing if a bunch of "colorful" RED reservationists "documented" their first shoots & tests with thier REDs and somebody cut all that together - there is a lot of color in RED ...

Chuck -

I will want a crash housing for sure. I used 2 or 3 with 35mm eyemos on SUPER TROOPERS - besides the obvious crash stunts and pyro gags - it's really good for car stunts where you don't plan to crash ... but you just might ...

I like that idea! Editorially it would be somewhere between "Jackass" and "Smokey and The Bandit", but you're right, the colorful personalities who put RED One in motion in the field, will be a story unto itself. Floating a small camera around the process, as a POV/reality 3rd person's eyes would be very cool indeed! I suspect parts of that "Making Of..." footage would make many a Directors Cut for DVD release - or at least credit roll fodder. It would provide some much-needed comic relief! A sense of humor is one of the attributes I look for when I hire my crews - they need it when they work with me!

The U.S. didn't buy Canada. America tried to invade Canada many years ago but were butt whooped (something I learned a lot of US schools do not teach). From what I hear the Canadian military is still quite a force. Canada has sea hawk helicopters that crash frequently, 5 used submarines they bought from the UK that start on fire and a nasty birgade of suicide beaver bombers.

Hey offhollywood,

No problem with the crash housing. Currently we are a bit back logged due to such a high demand for this product. And I assume since your a two camera owner that you will be wanting yours set up for 3-D shooting. Will that be for polarized or anaglyphic type 3-D ? Which ever way is fine but due to the complexity of such a project, it will require that we have both cameras in house for a minimum of six months. As I've already mentioned to others, the best thing to do would be to have the cameras drop shipped directly to me from the factory.
We are also proud to announce the newest product from Jakes Foundry.
Yes "Jakes" where we take your GMC truck and make it into something useful! The Jakes Foundry Mu metal camera shipping case. This breakthru product will protect your RED camera sensor from not only cosmic rays but also will prevent fogging of the sensor from airport xray machines. We also offer the frequent flyer the Jakes Mu Metal Bennie, so important when flying on todays aging and decaying aircraft. Frequent flyers may purchase either item by transfering their flyer miles directly to, Jakes Foundry Ltd.

I hate to get the thread off topic, here, but Chuck, I was wondering where my P2 cards are. I sent them to you seven months ago for that capacity upgrade (and yes, I sent my D200 with primes), but have not yet received the 128Gb cards.

Sorry to bother you durring this heavy season, but I really need to know an ETA. I've put off filming my wedding for six months now, and my fiance is getting kinda funny.

LV,

Didn't you get me email about six months ago? As I told you right from the start MAYBY we could do it with just the primes but as it turns out we require the Cooke zooms, both of them. Once we have the zooms in hand I would expect the turn around to be in a predictable time frame.
Oh and by the way, what do you mean GETTING kinda funny?

yours as ever,

Chuck

Hey, chuck...

It sounds like you guys are swamped up there. Perhaps I could lend a hand. I'm not a bad welder and I look alright in a flannel shirt. Or at least the wife thinks so because she let me wear one to our wedding. Relocation isn't a problem right now as we're living out of the RV. Had to sell the house in order to finance this RED camera thing. I need to get out of town anyway, my cousin knows I've ordered RED and he wants to use to shoot pornos.

So let me know if you could use another hand. If you have a spot out back where I can park the RV and plug in that would be swell. I don't mean to impose, but it would be even better if Jake has an extra stall in the barn so the missus and I could offload the kids at night.

Oh, yeah... I'll bring my rifle and shotgun collection too. My boy sure likes playing with them and he's ready to start collecting his own. But I keep telling him he at least as to wait a few more months for his 2nd birthday.

re: Orygun relocation

Dear Mr. Kilgroe,

After confering with upper mangement, (Mr. Jake Brake) we would be pleased to accept your resume at this time. Please also include five personal references and tax history for the last seven years. Also we will require current bank account and creditcard numbers to verify your credit history.
If all proves to be valid, we see no problem with locating your mobile home within the perimeter of our industrial park. The rustic sleeping cabin for the youngsters is also doable so long as they remember to NEVER (and this is critical) never let Jakes dog dish run out of kibble. I take it the two young ladies in your avatar are your older daughters. Young women of that age of course would not be comfortable in the cabin and I think it would be best if I were to arrange sleeping quarters in the main house for them with me.
We offer a generous compensation package here at Jakes Foundry which includes dental, (up to one tooth a year) and access to the company fishing boat (after appropiate patching) and two Zebco fishing rod packages. This of course is after a six month probationary period.
Feel free to contact us with any further questions.

yours:

Randy Quaid - "Christmas Vacation"

Gibby,

If next time you are watching Christmas vacation take a close look at Randy Quaid in the store dog food scene. He must have went to craft service before that scene and had them give him the biggest sausage they had and shoved it down the pants of his blue leasure suit. He would put most horses to shame. They do not draw it to your attention to keep it a little subtle but when I noticed it on about my 5 watch I died laughing.

It's there later in the movie during the kidnapping and the swat team crashing the house too. I'm glad he didn't do it for the pool scene with the undershirt tucked into his speedo. Hehe.

I'd also have to agree with Gibby. Definitely one of the funniest movies ever made. A true Christmas classic and I watch it at least once a year. Randy Quaid emptying the port-a-crapper into the storm sewer was comic genius. "Shitter was full!"
