And if we'd need or want for a larger screen than 5.6"? Is it possible? How?

no composite. composite is for sissys.

But for Steadycam work (I mean those who already have their systems) would be interesting... Any chance for that?

Would this work?

The camera presently has no analog video outputs of any kind. It's pretty unlikely they're planning to add a whole analog subsystem at this point.

:) Love that! "Composite? Composite?!!! Composite is for sissys, PUNK!!! Go get me something to hit you with!!!"

From the Panasonic website:

"The BT-LH80W will be available in July 2007 with an estimated suggested list price of under $3000...Available options for the BT-LH80W include the HD-SDI input module, a custom hood for outdoor work and an adjustable mounting arm for on-camera use."

So, no HD-DSI included in the $3000 price. The optional hood suggests it is not sunlight friendly. Makes the RED LCD look mighty appealing.

Larry go back three posts and you'll see that the sdi module costs $700.00

So, $3700 list price. Plus the custom hood and arm. No hood needed for the RED LCD and it comes with the arm at no additional cost. Again, makes the RED LCD look pretty attractive.

Hey Larry,

The reason I thought that Don might be interested was that he asked about a unit for Steadicam work. The panny unit has some features that would be good for that (frame line markers, blue only etc.).
Even Stedi ops use hoods sometimes.
Oh and by the way 3.7k is not going to bother a pro stedi op as the 5" green crt they use is over 5k.

No hood needed for the RED LCDNo hood needed ??! Are you sure?

The choice of the EVF over the LCD is really tearing me up. I'm inclined to go with the LCD since I do own a Steadicam, and of course, plan to use it with RED. This has probably been asked, but can the RED LCD flip its image? Not real important, but just wondered if this feature was there . . . if it can, this allows me to immediately shoot in low-mode (with the camera upside-down) with almost ZERO re-rigging (very handy when you're stealing your locations)!

Of course, I also plan to do a LOT of handheld work as well, so the EVF would certainly be nice. But I figure, I can always use the LCD on the Steadicam, and sort of, handheld, but I can't use the EVF at all on the Steadicam.

Ralph, I don't know if it flips, but I thought with the "mount any where you like" feature design of the LCD, mounting upside down would be no problem.

As for me, I'm on a budget as well. But, I think having both EVF & LCD is the way I'm going to go, having as many options as possible might make the difference when I want to rent the rig out.

im planning in on the red evf.. it just makes more sense for me right now... ill shoot alot of location stuff in the day time.. and hopefully more feature films but im curious to know.. can u use any regular LCD monitor? does it have to be HD? i dont care if im looking at perfect resolution on the lcd (mainly for framing while on steadi or crane).. plus i plan on having a 13-20 inch HTDV LCD monitor on set for the director and crew anyways..

I have to get both.. I'm going to hold off on RED's batteries for a little bit. My lens situation is wierd.. I have redone my package about 6 times so far but I gotta say, it's so nice to have all these choices.

This is going to be a great camera

SDI to composite converter I use one of these to my Steadicam PRO monitor no problems small part of a second delay is quite OK. just power it off a coupla race car batterys 2 sets go all day. I simply velcro (Radio Shack style super velcro) the box on the side of the camera.

This allows me to use my daylight flippable frame line bubble monitor without a bunch of set up time bolting a new monitor on and trying to get back to dynamic balance.

Surely if you rotate both the camera and the monitor then the image will still be the right way up?

Chuck, I know about "real" world prices, been in this biz a while. That's why I am so blown away by the price of the RED LCD, and just about everything else on the pricelist.

Jarred said in a post over the past couple of days that the RED LCD is daylight visible. Said he was suprised how bright the image was even outside in the sunshine. That's why I said no hood.

regarding Panasonic's model:

"The monitor is outfitted with an 800 x 450 pixel wide panel..."
