I wouldn't say its difficult to find our products... more like impossible. We are going to have the store online asap and the product pages will be updated as well. Curran - the price should come in well under $200 with the cable....

Ok, we finally have pricing from LEMO and can give some solid pricing for the cables and record button. We're working out our shipping options and will have them up for sale on our website by weeks end and first units will ship a couple weeks after NAB. We were going to be making these out of plastic but then common sense got the better of us so now they're going to be diecast (aka bullet proofish). We ended up going with two straight connectors instead of the rt. angle and straight connector - the reasoning is that we wanted to get the cable pricing very low and the best way to do that is to use the same connectors on both ends of the cable and double the volume pricing. If enough people want the straight to right angle then we can revisit that issue and provide an option.

Origo: $110
2.5ft Straight Cable: $73
2.5ft Coiled Cable: $86
30ft Straight Cable: $98

Hey Curt, I need an appx. 100 foot run for a shoot on an Akela crane. What are my options? Can you make 2@ 50 feet? Will it work from that far? I've got about a week to come up with a solution.

Why not go wireless? All major FF systems can start/stop the RED camera

CVB
03-24-2008, 12:44 PM
Seth, not sure on the long distances. The red camera outputs a tally signal that we have to get in order to verify that recording has started... not sure how much current they have behind that signal and how well it would fare over the longer distances. We're looking into a 60 foot option so it wouldn't take much to verify 100 feet at the same time. The other option is to use Impero - it has a start/stop built in.

Anders - Making Origo wireless would make it a $500ish product instead of a lean and mean sub $200 product.

So - put it into the Impero instead and I'd be willing to pay a few hundred more for that feature.

Glad to know those bad boys will be shipping soon. Does the system include a dolly axis yet?

I've got that shot I've been mentioning to you for a while that I would love to shoot late this summer or fall. It's comping a RED daylight dolly move with a DSLR long-exposure (night stars) move. Would you guys possibly be down for a test like that at Joshua Tree or Lone Pine? It's a girl walking through a dreamlike landscape of rock formations shot at sunset/sunrise, and then comped with the moving stars behind her.

Forum member Andrew Benz, I think, wants to help out with it, too.

Funny you mention this... Tom, I most definitely want to help and will bend over backwards to make the schedules work (fall is football client time).

I just got a copy of Fricke's "Chronos" and while watching it the other night all I could think of was... Tom (helping you get your comp idea worked out), Red (sweet jebus, I just got it Monday! but just have time now to turn it on for the first time- :) ), the Mirus and the three months I spent back in '95 living in Giza, Egypt (watch Chronos, for those that have not and get ready to be inspired and buy a plane ticket--stay at the Mena House).

But hey, we need to kidnap Jeff if cannot come, just because...

First units are shipping by the end of the month. Man! I seriously can't wait for this system. Feels like the end of the month is forever away! Any thought on how much this will affect the life of batteries? Will it draw the same amount no matter what, or when it's not being used, it uses less. Forgive my limited knowledge of electronics. Just curious how this will affect my battery life.

The motors draw about 12V@ 1 amp each so a 3 motor setup would be 3 amps x 12V x 1 hr = 36 Wh. Typical battery life for the RED One is about an hour on the battery so thats about 150 Wh. Total consumption would then be 186 Wh and with a 150Wh battery that would mean 48 minutes vs 60 minutes - so basically it would decrease battery life by 10 -15 minutes (if you were running them continuously). When the motors are idle they draw nowhere near an amp so that number is probably a little steep.

Let me add my vote for the dolly...

Bruce Allen
www.boacinema.com We'll see. The idea is to make it break down into manageable sections of about 3-4ft in length. Ideally I'd like to get a 20' dolly in something around the size of a couple tripod cases (14" diameter and 4' longish)

I've been tempted to order, but I need to be sure. No reason why it shouldnt work on those setups. As long as you have a battery supply with a Dtap connection it would work fine. The only thing we dont offer yet is the gear rings for non-cinema lenses. We are working on it but for now I'd suggest going with redrock or zacuto's solution on the lens gear adaptors.

Curt... How long will it take to fill the orders for Inclino and Impero once they start shipping? I didn't order until after NAB (I'm a procrastinator sometimes), but I kinda need the FF setup yesterday. We are planning on fulfilling initial orders up to NAB by the middle of June. Orders after NAB will definitely be the middle of June to the end of June. Like I said before, the problem isn't capacity its component lead times. We're working it out with our CM as we speak.

Hey Curt, Haskell here....nice to see your rig in action at NAB this year and if I was not so tapped financially from RED alone I would have placed my order then and there on the show floor. IMO Origo is useful on the camera 24/7. Unlike a film camera Red is near silent. Which can cause a big question of focus pullers being unsure of if the camera is really rolling after they hit the record button. Origo is great because when you hit record the camera beeps 1 time reassuring you that the camera is rolling and beeps twice when you cut. This is a feauture that comes standard on most every cine camera available but was missed on the red. So in my books an Origo is a needed accessory all the time.
