View Full Version : HD-SDI Question

I am experimenting with build 15, and I can't figure out how to get a clean signal out of the HD-SDI when the focus overlay feature is on. I want the HD-SDI to be clean, so my clients only see the color signal (frame lines are ok). I checked the manual, and the active menu should allow me to do this, but it seems to have disappeared.
Do I need both the EFV and LCD in order to get a clean HD-SDI output?
Thanks,
Chris

You know we worked for so long to get all these outputs active. not having graphics on the HD-SDI wasn't properly considered - and it should have been. So the answer to your question is yes - you need both EVF and LCD present to disable graphics on the HD-SDI.
Note the HD-SDI is not a true "clean feed" as it includes the SurroundView area as well. Thats true whether graphics are enabled or not.

It would be cool if you could disable the graphics even if you don't have both the EFV and LCD connected. I can see many situations where only the EFV is in use.

Or enable them if that is your preference too. Choice is what we'd all like. I am willing to be patient though. Just being able to operate without my BTLH-900 strapped to the side is like having a new camera.

Wait until you get the EVF :shifty:
Many of us have been waiting for the EVF. Where is it?

They are getting close to having about a 100 of them in the field and seem to be ramping up now.

Agreed, it is like we just received a new model.
I would vote for the following options in future builds;
a. option to turn on/off menu, frame-lines, etc (not all or none, but options)
b. option to turn on/off SurroundView in HD-SDI
(imo the surround view is primarily needed only in the EVF or LCD, not in the HD-SDI as it is usually used as a client monitor or reference monitor and its a pain to constantly explain to the client that the framing will be slightly different. Of course having the option would be ideal as when mounted on a jib.)

Something tells me once they get through the major stuff (All outputs, image improvment) then these types of changes will come faster

Does build 15 show the same info on a BTLH900 as it does on the Red LCD? In other words, can you see the bottom info/histogram line?
Thanks

Nope. You need the LCD to see all of the menu items.

Or an HDMI monitor.

Or an HDMI monitor.
The RED HDMI out to my Gateway FHD2400 24" HDMI no longer works. I have to use a HDMI to DVI cable for the menus to appear.
As in earlier post, it would be nice to have choices about how many monitors one could use as well as what appears on those monitors.
However, in build 13, I was able to have my Gateway display a full image with menus and have my other monitor display an image with the menus cropped. I was hoping that in build 15, that I would be able to continue to do this with the added benefit of also having the RED LCD work at the same time. With the Menus(DVI) choice, I can only get the RED LCD and one DVI monitor to work.
In a studio situation, I'd like to have an onboard LCD/EVF with menus for the operator, a monitor with menus for the DP, and one or more monitors without menus for the Director and other folks on the set.

Yes, me too Phan.
Red LCD for the AC (on camera)
LH-900 Panasonic for the DP or operator (on camera) EVF as well.
loop out of the onboard LH-900 to another LH-900 for the director (on a stand)
loop out of the second LH-900 to video village (large HD LCD, downconverters, etc.)
IT WOULD BE GREAT if the 1080 output could be CLEAN, with NO LOOK AROUND to go to an HDCAM SR deck... if for no other reason then it would solve my dilemma of what to say when clients tell me, "I'd love to use the Red, but we're going with the D-20 because we just want an HD tape when we're done"
Then I will be happy with monitoring options...
;)

Is it still the case that with the latest built 17 you cannot see all the menus while using only HD-SDI monitor? My monitor is on backorder so I though I would rent HD-SDI monitor such as BTLH-900 for preview to see all the menus and histogram.
Thanks
