I figure the pancake is flatter and thus better for short ceilings and has a better quality of light. I'm looking for a go-to key light for night interiors.

I'm curious if anyone has had their Epic on a multi rotor rig and if so did they or were they able to get insurance to cover the Red against damage? I'm putting together a project that we would like to shoot aerials for but our production insurance company won't touch an RC heli for damage coverage. I'm reluctant to put our Epic on a craft if we can't get insurance against damage.

If anyone has info regarding insurance companies that will cover us for this I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks.

I'm still in a long debate deciding which would better suit me.

Dolly (Matthews doorway dolly):
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...way_Dolly.html

Pros
-Track is on the ground and can easily do in/out shots
-Camera operator/1st AC can sit/stand on the dolly
-Can be as long as needed in both straight and curved
-Can be set up in places the Slider cant
-Can mount a jib on the dolly
-Can be used on a track and on the ground

Cons
-Working solo can be more difficult to setup/loan/unload
-Heavy (Often need 2+ people to help)
-Size (It is big, but still manageable for transport)

Slider (Losmandy Explorer Trolley):
http://www.porta-jib.com/explorer.html#trolley
Pros
-Lightweight
-Can be moved and setup by yourself
-Can be set up in places the dolly cant

Cons
-Straight track only
-Cannot do in/out shots or the track will be in the shot
-Cant mount a jib on the slider
-Camera operator/1st AC must follow with camera

I have never worked with a slider before. I have only worked with dollies; Matthews doorway dolly, Peewee dolly, Chameleon Dolly.
This is for work on short films, feature films, commercials, and music videos

I've read that A Clockwork Orange was shot almost entirely using a small Lowell kit that fit in a portable case. Alcott's said he commonly used Lowell 1,000 watt quartz lights, either in umbrellas or bounced off the ceiling.

Does anyone know what particular kind of Lowell light that is available today would be equivalent to the one's Alcott praises so highly in the Clockwork Orange interviews? Could it be the Lowell DP light? or the Rifa? i have a feeling he is talking about something like the Lowell DP light, and they mounted an umbrella on it as needed. But theres a few other lights Lowell makes today that might be similar to the one Alcott refers to. anybody know any more info?

I like the idea that they made that film with, for the most part, a minimal lighting setup that all fit in a small easy to transport case. That being said, should I be looking into any other lighting that might be similar to this methodology, or is Lowell the one to invest in? i don't wanna spend that much so i guess don't recommend that i purchase Arri fresnels or something in a higher price range (unless you really think I'm making a mistake if I don't!)

Thanks!

If I told you "shooting with a long lens will give you a shallower depth of field than say, shooting with a wide lens" I'm sure most, if not all of you would agree. But is that really true? Or is it simply the fact that the background "out of focus" area is magnified so much, that it appears to be shallower. Perceptually, the long lens will compress the scene, creating the illusion that depth of field is shallower, but isn't the "depth" the same? Isn't the out of focus component of the image "out of focus" the same amount, regardless of what lens you use?

Not that this really matters in the scheme of things, but I thought it was interesting none the less. The reason I raise this topic is because I know there are a lot of technically savvy people on here who might agree/disagree/learn something new by means of discussion. Either way, I think it's fun to discuss things like this, especially since it's something I thought I was sure of until reading the article below. Also, as I off-topically raised this point in another thread, I thought it should have it's own home here.

Below is the article that converted me.....some have already dismissed it as "totally off, both technically and visually", but to me, the proof is there! What do you think?
