Hey all,

Did anyone have a chance to play with the movi at the RED NYC open house? I was supposed to attend but it just happened to fall on the day I moved out of my old apartment!

I'm seriously considering investing in a movi, steadicam, or some similar stabilization system, and am wondering what everyone's thoughts are. The movi seems pretty incredible, but the 10lb weight limit is a big concern. Does anyone know how solid that number is? Do you think it would be able to handle a scarlet, side handle, redvolt, 5" LCD, wireless follow focus, and possibly a mattebox (I've got an O'Connor OBox that weighs in at 1.54 lbs.)? It seems to me that any less wouldn't really be worth it.

If not, what are the best steadicam options out there that are comparably priced (or preferably, less expensive)? I'm not looking for "cheap," as I'd rather make a good investment for the long term than blow a couple grand on something that will fall apart in a year.

If any NYC folks have a system they dig, I'd love to check it out at some point!

Taking off the reflector allowing you to:
Put on a soft tube
Drop them into a china ball
Slap them into a source 4... HMI still has that nice, clean "edge" that comes from a strong single
source. And of course you can soften it down.

The , there are the Nilas (Boxer, Varsa kit and Mini), with:
the Cool temp ( within reason closer placement),
On board V/Au++ mount power
increased power over last year's version (reported 15%)
Form factor
Longevity & Durability (reported 20K hrs-vs. re-lamping Jokers)=Cost of ownership

There are other differences, that can be listed, but hands on experiences, etc. would seemingly be useful to share.

Thank you very much

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get a tripod for a scarlet kit. I don't know the weight, but it won't have a mattebox or cine lense. Pretty basic. I've been looking at a few and I wanted to know what everyone thought. I'm trying to keep it under $1k.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...um_Tripod.html
My friend uses this tripod and he said ignore the load capacity. That seems like a big risk and possibly stupid idea right?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...6_3_Stage.html
This is what I'm leaning towards but I'm afraid to do the single sticks... even though from my experience, I like them.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...B_2_Stage.html
I'm wondering what people think about this setup. Seems like a good option.

Any other suggestions or thoughts?

Thank you!

Looks like the piece to adapt to 1/4x20 went missing. The hole isn't threaded 1/4x20 so it's not as easy as just installing a new stud. RED doesn't make the arm, as it's just re-branded.
I haven't heard back from NOGA, but does anyone know where to find a replacement part or other such solution?

okay so this is the group buy for the CAME HMI lights. There are two flavors:
1.2kw HMI
575w HMI

Email joey at: joey.9111@hotmail.com

Put in the subject line: Group buyer from Reduser

in your email along with your shipping address select the following items and tell him what you want:

1200W HMI light:
USD1034/pcs without bulb
USD1096/pcs with ordinary bulb
USD1232/pcs with OSRAM bulb

575w HMI Light
USD712/pcs without bulb
USD746/pcs with ordinary bulb
USD882/pcs with OSRAM bulb

Once she confirms your order, he will give you the paypal address to send payment too. ALL LIGHTS COME WITH 110v Plugs. No problems there.

Once you have made your order come back here and report on what you purchased. This pricing will not go into effect until we pass 10 lights total.

Good luck let me know what happens.

a minimum of 10 units will need to be sold to get this pricing. If you get better bulbs, then the lights will be hot strike. [/SIZE]

Normally when I run a group buy I look for FAR more aggressive discounts than this, however I think we all know joey is already cutting things as thin as possible, and there's just nowhere for him to go really.

Anyone interested in this? You will have to make some allowances, but if you don't have a lot of coin, and want to get into HMI lighting, then this is the best deal you are going to find.

Jay
I'll post more information as I get it.

Couple things you need to understand about the CAME HMIs:
1 These are NOT hot strke lights. Turn them off and you may have to wait 10 min to turn them back on. Getting better bulbs will solve this problem.
2 People say the bulbs that come with these lights are not wonderful.. They are noisy. So, again, plan on getting better bulbs
3 I hear the ballast fan is not that quiet. So this could be another consideration.

Some of you have these lights.. The more info you can share with us, the better.

Hey Guys,

I have spoken with Ryan at K5600 about the concept of running a group buy and he is interested to say the least. For those of you who do not know, check out www.K5600.com

K5600 has some of the nicest, most flexible HMI lighting around. These are lifetime tools. You'll only buy them once. According to other red users, their service is 2nd to none.

This will be a private group buy in that I will not be able to post pricing online here, but will have to send it to you thru email.. I will work all that out later.

For right now, if we were able to get some sweet discounts, would you be interested in making a purchase, and if so, what lights would you want more info on.

You should also take a look at their "soft-tube" accessory.. It's amazing. Also the 800w light can be mounted into a source 4 for some AMAZING results. As I recall, David Mullen used that technique a bit.

We're in the early stages now. K5600 has said they are interested in working with us. Minimum purchase would be 10 units. So now, are YOU interested?

Let me know. If there are enough interested people, I'll move things forward.
