whoa!
Congrats, Jim! Great to hear it's "live". Looks nice and small!
More resolution, more dynamic range, better color than anything we have ever done. We wish you all could see what we are seeing.
The body is incredibly small for what it is capable of. My hats off to the engineers.
Jim
woaaa!
looks a little beauty
nice job!
excellent news
anyone else get the feeling that after NAB- things are gonna be epic?
keep coming!!
you guys dont play
more DR, wtf??
This is the upgrade I'm waiting for.
Very exciting.
Great news Jim!! Extremely exciting!!! Can't wait to see some footage! :)
Great news.
more DR than MX in a red one ?
Right fucking on!
This is exciting. Glad you can share the news. Congratulations to all involved!
OMG, It's better than the First time.
I remember waiting for the ONE.
This is much better, but both are worth the wait.
LOL, YES.
Michael T.
The plot thickens... incredible.
Hey Jim, I bet it is also a huge relief, finally being able to announce this to the world. After all the blood, sweat and tears.
Doc.
The RED One has some limitations put on the M-X. Resolution on the EPIC will be 5K and beyond...whereas the RED One can only go to that 4.5K.
Also, having a bit more time to work with the boards and using all new hardware that has been completed over 2 years after the first RED Ones began shipping would also probably have a little something to do with the imagery pushing the limits even further. :)
Call me crazy, but is that an iPad in that shot, Jarred?
Epic... (this'll be confusing when we use the same word to describe the Scarlet...)
Man I love the size of that thing!
So great that the R1 was bigger and first on the scene
and now with this compact Red Giant on set
It will be easy to respect it with a name like Epic
especially after all the love of the new Mx R1
Looking good
So happy to get one soon
Please be soon
can't wait....can't wait....
Heh, well, I was guessing it's much closer to the camera than the... errr... the camera. What I mean is the iPad is closer to the still camera taking the photo than the Epic is. Looks like the Epic is outside the DOF. The bezel sure looks to me exactly like an iPad, and I handled my fair share of them today.
I was hoping there would be a some sort of iPad monitoring app to take advantage of the WiFi built into the DSMCs. My understanding is the WiFi wouldn't send a live feed, but if it could at least send periodic stills, that could be very useful for logging.
Oh my god! It looks fantastic!!! And sitting on that Arrihead2 also is the cherry on top :)
It's beautiful...
But with the cable coming out of the back of it, I'd bet 2 cents on "no"...
I like the quib at Arri, or at least thats what I see. The obvious EPIC mounting ontop of Arri, almost victoriously. Great Symbolism here.
looks like a hp monitor you cant connect a video source to the Ipad im pretty sure
No, its the newer version of this monitor by HP.http://computershopper.com/lcd-monit...mi-lcd-monitor
Speaking of cables... I dont think we have shown you this one yet.. it converts the DSMC power lemo to the legacy RED ONE lemo so you can still use all your RED ONE power options.. and those big RED BRICKS power EPIC for a very, very long time :)

I like the monitor...
What's on the monitor more precisely.

...ok, seriously. We should be talking about the camera, not the monitor.
The Monitor is a random 1080p HDMI monitor by HP.... The output of EPIC is 1080p (even during record ) so it looks pretty incredible.
Jarred, how much is the weight of the EPIC-X, brain only?
Can you let us know what the weight of the Fixed Scarlet is?
A while ago I remember reading something about using the Red MD SDK to develop apps that would work over WiFi. (Roberto mentioned it here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpos...31&postcount=2. He got the suggestion from Dino at the February Red Day.)
In any case, I'm sidetracking things from the really cool news of Epic's Epicness. Great news, and congratulations! I can't wait for NAB!
I have to say that when I held EPIC, fired it up and saw the images... I died and went to heaven.
