Proxy Module...

RED is increasing the workflow flexibility on Epic and Scarlet with Proxy Modules… the first of which is an H.264 Module.

This module encodes a 1080P stream (high quality scale from full frame) and records to Compact Flash in a rear module. The module also offers secure password protected streaming over dedicated WiFi and ethernet to iPhones, iPads, laptops as well as broadcast to the internet.

This will be beneficial for on set viewing, instant dailies, offline editing, easy file transfer to remote locations, dailies review and collaboration services with such companies as Pix, or live broadcasting for realtime media distribution.

The modules will also support full metadata and XML for editorial.

Availability will be September 2010 and the price will be $2500.

You don't only listen, you take all the wishes thrown at your way and then think, hmm, this sounds easy, I guess I'll just have to exceed all the wishes and make something even more awesome.

This really changes the applications for EPIC/Scarlet.

It seems that you've done it again, RED. This should cause quite a stir:).

Will the second one offer ProRes, with choice of 422, HQ or 4444 ?

H.264 is great, but a pain to edit, ProRes is it right now, especially since Arri is using it.

These wee hour posts are making it easy for me to catch up on my video gaming.

I just came online and wanted to write a funny comment like "huh, no news today? Somebody sick??"... and then I was proven wrong/RED. :)

Cool feature. More and more workflows for RED cams...

Finally, my three years old dreams started coming true about RED footage streaming wireless to iPhone (also today iPad, etc...)

And it's coming soon with Epic and Scarlet.
