H.264 proxy recording is HUGE!
One question though, and just to be clear this isn't a dig I am only wavering between, that's fantastic! and THAT'S FREAKING AMAZING.
When they say that the proxy speaks to the Ipad, iphones, and laptops of the world, are they streaming over a wifi source or are they broadcasting a signal that can link two devices through their wifi signals.
So are we restricted to using that feature of an already cool product, to sets that have wifi internet (Very few)?
Perhaps as all the AT&T iphone users are drooling, the verizon mobile hotspot owners are laughing like maniacs into their droids.
Wow how fast is it? can you do a live feed to like say an ipad and use that as frame'ing monitor, when doing a crane move for example? or even better to send the picture to the touchscreen monitor? How long does the wifi send?
I love modular systems!!
Hell yeah!
Sounds beautiful... I just wish it was cheaper. 2500 dollars is pretty steep for a (future) Scarlet owner.
Indeed. Although for doing live web streams 1080 is overkill, hopefully a more bandwidth managable module shows up. I would love to use this sort of thing to produce live webcasts.
I would guess to share this with a number of people on set you would want a wireless network. The camera module connects as the source, and then everyone else connects to that network, rather than a bunch of devices connecting directly to the camera module.
I suggest you look into other options for doing the same thing. Then come back and say this is a great deal. Remember, this isn't something you need to own, and it will likely be cheap to rent when needed.
ok guys... you are the fastest in reaction.... you rock... cant say more...
I had my first experience with H264 editing and it`s the worst situation I ever encountered - the files not only got to crash Premiere and my system but break Premiere totally until I had to install it twice...so it would be more than nice to have some other format, like Quicktime JPEG or whatever else...but besides this point that module will be of great use!
Jim, why H.264 over prores ? Because cross-platform matter ?
RV
I would gather it's for the streaming purposes; an iPhone or iPad can play H.264 natively over wifi... they can't do prores. This module is more for usability purposes on set than to grab offline dailies (as I gather). Of course one can use it for the latter, but in that scenario something like ProRes would be more desirable. I think we'll hear news of more modules in different codecs coming down the line...
