Significant Update...

This just makes the M deal look even better for those of us without stage 2 or 3 reservations.

Regarding batteries.. I can't comment yet as mine haven't turned up and I mainly power the camera from my steadicam sled.

But I bought the Viewfactor FMJ top mount, and a 19mm top rod holder with handle (Among other bits from the red store) and I have mounted my old RED ONE battery pack/hard drive cradle onto the EPIC via the 19mm carbon fibre rods and I use IDX v-lock batteries.

This setup works for me great ad I am very happy with this power setup. Ideally i would like a Vlock plate/cradle that could mount to the viewfactor full metal jacket top mount.

that is a fantastic deal for existing RED owners... the difference in price is enormous! why wouldn't almost every RED owner choose either stage 2 or 3..? :-)

Essentially, yes. Someone who is able to get the search function on this website working better than me can probably dig something up... I know there have been multiple images of the XL batteries posted along the way.

That doesn't really seem possible as the XL's are the width of two regular REDVOLTS, so unless the module was the last in the chain and the batteries went on the back, it wouldn't fit. But I suppose everything is subject to change. :)

So.... if my math is right....

I can order the M now, just got my approval email :) at 58k

or wait for stage 4 at appx. 46k or if I miss that, pay appx 53k next year (for the same kit as an M package)

Yeah, that's a real tough decision and fortunately I just sent out a mound of invoices. Now if I can just manage not to totally freak out while waiting to get funds in place... patience young padawan.

It's astounding the quality of craft that Red is making available to mere humans like myself ;)
