I was just wondering the other day what would happen if RED dug into this kind of stuff.... unf***ingbelievable!!!!
Jim, "Several personality disorders"? I had to submit my psych profile and long med list just to be allowed to even log on, let alone by your toys!!!!
Love this company :) So excited for the 3rd!
Beyond pulling mattes, and depending on how the data is stored/utlized, depth maps can be used for CG tracking and 3D object placement. Not to mention realistic volumetric effects like fog, dust, or smoke within a scene. We've used LIDAR, Surphaser, and human measured survey data for a great deal of things. There's a lot of set data captured on larger budget features involving many details about the camera angle, height, lens, lens focus distance, etc.... Getting more of this information "in camera" can save time and money on these productions. Also, it can be useful when creating virtual cameras on heavy CG background productions. There's a million things you can use the data for.
RED People, why did you reveal this ? You are like kids...this is great.. But please, think about those monsters(Sony,Canon,etc..) who just wait and steal ideas...
when I think again, ignore them totally, they will crush themselves anyway if they dont change themselves soon ..
Go ahead...And tell us if we can assist in any way..I know sounds ridicilous but I feel like I am not doing anything in this Redvolution...
you guys are too much... excited to see and hear and touch everything you've got in store
Or you could just hire somebody who knows what they are doing to light it right in the first place! A camera that doesn't need proper lighting or a focus puller - Do Not Like!
The technologies mentioned in this thread sound like they have amazing potential, but fixing poorly shot footage in post should be the least of anyone's concern.
