my advise to anyone dealing r3ds.. buy a copy of r3d data manager if you don't get on with the shell, it has a user interface for redundead.. if the files were on your install drive.. don't install...
if red had a downsampled mode the Alexa would take a broad side.. it would surely be a useful thing, and im a little miffed that 1080p rgb recording modes were dropped.. but thats what happens..

OK , not double..but
According to my currency calculations.. creative cloud costs $72 approx if you pay in sterling (as apposed to $50 approx if paying in dollars)
.. even taking into account...
i believe red simply rearrange the raw pixels before they are compressed using a certain well known image format, to aid compression and reduce artifacts before demosaicing
ill try and find a...

Does anybody know if the proposed Epic 1080p 60fps full frame downsampled RGB mode is still on the table sometime, or has it fallen off?
I don't believe 4k is the future, that number surely is arbitrary..

Red should publish a list of ballpark repair costs imo, so people...
100% on everything.. although I may slightly disagree that they're following in Jims footsteps, anymore more than Jim is following in Canons "raw"/"delay processing until post, do it all with dsp"...

I wasn't picking fault , merely responding.. your general observations are pretty good, Im just making the additionl point that, usually when you decode (or compare in this case) a lossy or visually...
Its a little more complicated than that.
Firstly, recode is jpeg2000, but is compressing a RAW image, not a complete RGB one, so any artifacts will affect the debayering process.
However, Red...
I haven't seen 4k on my TV yet.. and Im all out of 4k projectors at home.. Im sure sometime in the next 12months both will arrive and kick in my back door.. I may have to buy a HD tv to defend...
Fan noise should be in the test,
I'd bet the Alexa with its slower , quieter, larger fan will beat Epic in terms of design.. but will still be noiser than a HDHero ;)
there's a lot excited people on this thread. When I get my Epic back from the engineers on Monday, I'm gunna shoot some 48fps @ 1/384 shutter, for that saving private ryan look.. see how I feel about...
cinemaDNG captures what the sensor captures, redcode raw (j2k) records a lossy version of what comes off the sensor
Maybe Red will enable lossless redcode soon, maybe not
Heres some differences...
