They don't have audio in this release. Say that it is coming soon. New version will also allow 'batch' operations which it really needs.
Mark what level of Quantel hardware (CPU-motherboard) is required for realtime?
The camera preview is 720 but the playback can be set to 23.9/1080P (not pSF) and recorded by some (non-Sony) decks. The 4:2:2 single link is on the preview output connector.
We have recorded the...
We just did the dailies for an ABC pilot shot with the D21 and I would agree, it looked great, not edgey at all.
Going to try to get the real scoop next week, will let you know.
I think the AJA box will only deal with 23.98 Psf but the camera puts out pure progressive. We have had good success recording the 4:2:2 to HD-D5 and using its downconverter to SD.
I'm told you may be surprised. They do have some fast hardware at their disposal, but we shall see.

It's not elegant but we have had success dubbing out of the camera to HD-D5 (23.9P). Then ran it through our daVinci 2K and the pictures looked great.
Play out from the camera could use a better...
Watch for a major equipment manufacturer to announce full .r3d support as soon as tomorrow, stay tuned. :bleh:
Hey all, have we missed a way to get to the first clip on the drive, so we can play it out of the camera? Looked through the manual and didn't see it.
It's really a Sony thing. 23.98 P can be carried on a standard 1.5G connection as a 4:2:2 signal. Segmented format probably made it easier for them to meld it into the existing product technology....
Nah, we just strapped it to the SteadiCam guy's back, he didn't even notice.
Hey Mitch, we just did a record test with HD-D5 of the Red 23.98 P signal and it was happy. It's not dual link but it does work.
It is not possible because the signal is 23.9 P and Sony decks can only handle 23.9 Psf.
Steve; I think you're right on. Sometimes we don't have the luxury of rendering out pristine .dpx files to go into a daVinci session. Sure would be nice to have audio and TC embedded, hope they are...
Yes, the preview output is 4:2:2 so the colors will be correct.
We also did a test today and were able to record the output on a HD-D5. Please note: not many devices out there like straight 24P, we think the Quantel EQ will be OK with it.
We checked it out on a scope today, as Red has said, pure 24P not psf. That means no Sony recording, will try it on a HD-D5 tomorrow. If the quality is good it would be great to just dump...
Well Steve, we're waiting, did it work?
