Some very, very good points made in this podcast.
I know this isn't the best thing to hear, but I had the same issue and it ended up being corrupt R3Ds.
Luckily there were backups of the R3Ds.
At NAB the Cine-Tal's blew me away. Saw them in action at the Pogle booth.
I'm pretty sure they are 22k and up though.
So for 15k.. could be a good deal.
I use a Huey and then the MXO proc amps, which together allow for total color adjustment.
I have been basically using this method with my MXO. I have also been happy with the results.
I noticed you said
"Because of this method, I found out that Apple Color changes the look just by...
I am considering the GTX 285, which was released today. I hear all kinds of crap about how apple does not have optimized drivers for nVidia cards and Apple Color.. so I guess I'll wait until someone...
Looks nice, good detail all around, good balance.
At 01:11 the plant caught my eye, when I should have been watching the guys. It looks like your did a secondary on the plant and pushed the...
Im also about to buy a MacPro.. so what your saying is I cant run an internal RAID without the crappy Apple Raid card? Looks like I'll have an external RAID with the ATTO card then.
Any...
Should help a lot... 1.5GB/sec...
theoretically we should have real time 2k in apple Color with a new Nahelem and 500mb/s storage to work with.
Anyone have any recommendations?
It doesn't even need to be 1TB.. just enough for one project at a time.
I'm thinking some kind of internal SSD raid?
So far I have found this... ...
RAID will help but you wont get RT no matter what you do.
(I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm wrong)
I've heard that even if you have the storage bandwidth for RED 2k (~400mb/s) in Color.. because of the cpu/gpu work needed process red material and the fact that Color is not the most efficient...
how is Color playback at 2k r3d?
When you say set your display to gamma 1.8 do you mean computer monitor?
I am temporarily grading off of a computer display using color's dual display mode.
what is Color's gamma and what is...
A Kona offers some codec speedup's but its mainly just IO. a video card will help you with any application that is GPU intensive.. motion/AE/fcp/color.
If you really want to see a speed improvement...
Why not just edit with proxies and then send to color, which will allow you to work with the 2k media, send back to fcp as 2k ProRes HQ or 10bit UNC.
Can anyone recommend a real time 2k setup? Using Apple Color.. ?
I'm in a similar situation.
I need to be able to grade the red footage in Color at 2k, real time.
do I need the dual 2.66? How much ram/video card? IO card, which one?
If real time 2k can be...
Are you noticing this after sending back to FCP?
As a freelancer on a project by project basis it's hard to justify a Scratch right now.
Given the option however, (and the right environment) I would definitely prefer scratch. (speed, quality,...
wait.. color works off of the r3d's? isnt that the whole selling point of Scratch?
The reason the quadro seems like a nice option is because I will probably run Nitris and Lustre (must have a nvidia card) on the windows side via boot camp...still possible?
I don't think you would also need the MXO.. as the MXO2 could do your output as well..I'm sure you could choose between 8 and 10 bit output with the mxo2.
I'd wait for the osx supported nvidia fx... and sometime in March or possibly June is the expected update for the new mac pro and xeon cpu's... at least a 20% speed increase.
I hear that nVidia does not make quality drivers for the Quardro's...
What are some other quality GPU's for osx/color/fcp?
