Anyone using variable NDs out there for cine? Worth it or not?

I talked to the manager of our local theater and he said the version they had was a 2K on a hard drive distributed by Technicolor (!). That was a Regal Cinema theater outfitted with Sony 4K...

Sign of the times...there is a Regal Cinema 4K projector right up the road in tiny little Bellingham, Washington, showing GWDT.

If it is here, it can be anywhere.
