This is a known issue for the Red One. You don't want to use the onboard phantom power. Use an external Phantom source for going mic in or go line in via a mixer. Both will be fine..

Yep.. Crimson works great! crimson is an easy to use intermediate. Use fcp to cut low-res proxies and crimson and redcine to convert your edit into whatever you want.

I agree.... line level input is just fine. I've done alot of shooting going line in. When we just got the Red we even shot with a fostex harddiskrecorder on the side just in case. But ended up using...

Of course i agree the new 5d would probably be the better choice, but if you would be upgrading from a hobby DSLR, this would be the time to buy an "old" 5d. A fantastic camera and with the new one...

...Oops, indeed you are right. The body of the 40d is sealed like the 5d. Which means you can shoot in some bad weather conditions. Of course you wouldn't want to take it for a swim :biggrin: , but...

40d is still superior compared to the 450. Higher quality of the sensor, depth of color and quality of the body (waterproof) etc.
