Unless you're totally sure of its history, buying a used expensive mic runs risks.

Neumann mics are legendary, but imo costwise, a new Rode NTG-3 is better value and it has a free 10yr warranty...

For solo shooters this could be an interesting item to have in the bag .. stereo 24bit/96k on your iPhone etc ..

Apart from the 4 grand, this 664 is not for the faint hearted, fully tricked out on location...

Sound Devices releases a new rig, their reputation for superb gear makes this 664 a winner right from the getgo. Add their CL-6 and you get 12 mic inputs.

The sound is 70% of what you see, in a doco it's 80 or even 90% .. make no mistake, with a new camera like Scarlet on location, you'll be flat out getting your pictures.

So hire a competant sound...

My 2 cents .. Juicedlinks sounds better than the Beachteks, cleaner and less noise .. check the audio examples.

For the best results, you need to get the mics off the camera and into a suitable spot in an XY position right in front of the musicians. Recording to an external recorder is also best then syncing...

I've recorded church bells over the years and stereo worked best.

IMO it really depends on how, where and what country you started off in the industry.

I've trained audio engineers and found PPMs take a bit of getting used to, some folk get off to a bad start...

Quite likely they're 'Peak Program Meters' which register peak levels versus VU levels which don't. PPMs might be installed to stop digital audio overload/distortion, which can't be repaired.
