I don't understand these posts. So you mean you don't like the footage you've seen on Youtube?
We've been shooting with a Komodo for a while now, and I can tell you it's as good as all RED cameras...
Yes but sometimes you just want to use Tungsten lights. They have perfect IRE (100). They look amazing on skin. Or you're using Lekos, old school Lekos, and they're Tungsten. You can gel them sure,...
Yes we set 800 as a baseline, but that's not set in stone. An Epic Dragon is noisy at 800 ISO, so we set it at 400 ISO. Also situations vary. If you are shooting Tungsten, you can sometimes get a...
Personally I'd wait. Get a Komodo if you want to jump into RED. But DSCM3 is around the corner, which will affect the market/value of DSMC2 right away. Also DMSC3 will likely have some important...
I think you guys are probably thinking about this correctly. My working assumption has always been that AE's are probably closer to MKIs and B speeds (just because of their age - especially AE's with...
But to answer your briefly, yes Contax AE's and MM's look very similar to Super Speeds, simply because they are all from the same period - the 70's, 80's and 90's. They all have older, lower contrast...
There is literally a 7 year conversation that covers all this:

Yes changing ISO will not change the fact you may be under or over exposing your image - esp when shooting RAW.
Its still a useful baseline to have on set. For example, it can be useful when...
This is so good.
Generally speaking, when we shoot, we don't change the ISO ever as that's just metadata. If we need to add or remove light we do that physically -- either open or close the iris, or adjust lighting...
I personally think ISO is very helpful, even when shooting RAW.
Filmmaking is teamwork, and ISO is a common standard that can be shared with your gaffer, your colorist, your AC, your DIT, etc.

Bump.
Very nice. A combo that has worked for us very well too. Congrats
Hey gang, have an Epic Dragon 6K package for sale.
Lovingly treated, complete package. Has been used only in a studio environment. And only used carefully by my team. Has never had any issues, and...
I thought Mank was Monstro Monochrome?
All I will say is in *practical* terms we've been shooting Komodo, Gemini, and Dragon side by side and here's our conclusion:
Komodo is noticeably better than DSMC1 Dragon - more usable DR, and...
Yes but when you use it for the base 1-4 stops of ND its very clean, and very useful.
Hmmmm actually kind of interesting. Curious to hear more.
Wise words from a very wise man.
They are basically the same thing/idea. They are a black spec used to bloom practicals, and soften details. One is just made by Tiffen, the other by Schneider.
BPM is more popular on its own.

Not sure if I agree with you. The Komodo has been *very successful* so far. It's impressing a lot of people, particularly higher-end cinematographers who tend to gravitate to Alexa Mini, LF, etc.

Love this thread, and this spot:

Also worth noting some of the underlying messaging going on in the lighting - given how "American" KFC is, and even Roy Orbison...
We've shoot 3200 ISO low light no problem.
Honestly pretty interesting glass...
