RAM looks soldered in ala Macbook Air. Explains why the $200 premium isn't as bad as it has been in the past: Apple took away the user upgradeable aspect for both the storage and RAM.

Of course you never do IF you have a choice. I don't think there is one this time.

I just watched the MBP video. I'm NOT so sure the RAM is user upgradable.

EDIT: Apple Store upgrade shows a $200 premium to jump to 16GB.

Great points, Glen. Even if OS X were to come at a premium (with similar pricing of Windows), it would be a very nice option.

The 680 is still too new. It's still not a "supported" card yet.

Also, on the After Effects side, the ray-traced 3D renderer can't use Kepler-class cards like the 680. Adobe is apparently working...

Then maybe I'll go with an X79/3820k anticipating a potential CPU upgrade to IB-E in the future. This will still be a massive performance improvement from my 2nd gen Mac Pro. :)

I also wouldn't expect Apple to interfere with it's "All Eyes On Us, World" iPad announcement. In my opinion, the iPad is only second to the iPhone on Apple's priority list.

The entire ASUS X79 line also has (8) DIMM slots, while the three EVGA X79 motherboards only have (4) DIMM slots.

Also, MSI's X79A-GD65 (8D) has (8) DIMM slots.
