  1. #1 Cheese plate
Is the Cheese plate a necessity for mounting the RED to a tripod? Or does the Base Pro Pack work fine on sticks?

I'm also curious about the cheese plate. Does anybody have a picture of a configuration putting this item to good use?

the cheeseplate is recommanded to have a rock solid connection to the tripod head.

the shoulderdovetail also mounts to a tripod, but people say its not the best solution
red is not a color, it's a camera.

You are right. The shoulderdovetail can be mounted to a tripod but it's not very steady at all because of some space between the base plate and the dovetail.

I haven't seen this cheese plate in action anywhere. Does it slide into the base plate like the dovetail? If so, wouldn't it be subject to the same flaws as the dovetail?

No the cheeseplte is bolted to the bridge....from the camera side.
You need to remove the camera to put it on.
So it's not something you want to do often...it's no quick release :-)

    But very rigid indeed....

With the nature of the base plate (at least the one I got) I don't want to take it off and on too many times, as the bolts seem to eat into the material. Found some washers that seem to help, but I'm afraid now to take it off as it might break with too much handling..

Have you found any clever options for mounting the camera to a tripod without removing the camera from the base plate?

    Yes:
    1) Dont take the cheeseplate off
    or
    2) Get the RED 19mm Arri bridge

Thanks Anders. I guess in the end we need to get ALL of Reds accessories along with scratch. Wish I had read that small print... (not that I regret buying the camera, I don't. But there are some strange gaps here and there.) Good thing that people have started to make their own stuff. GO IBLOOM!!

Did I also mention: I love this camera (body)!! (not so much the accessories)

You can mount the camera directly to any europlate or any other quick release that works with your tripod. As was mentioned though, the cheeseplate and bolting your camera to your dovetail solution is not for quick changes and the like. That's why we went with just mounting our camera using the arri bridge plate and ET's dovetail. Quick on and off, very sturdy, and very sexy. My 2 cents. But, there are more than one ways to skin this cat. That's why it's so cool.

By the way I have an extra Cheeseplate in Denmark if anybody want to buy one. It's still wrapped in original package and never used. PM me if interested...
